Anyone able to answer this for Dan... I thought that as long as it was able to conform to registration requirements (headlight, indicators etc), and is registered for road use, then you're fine... I could be wrong though...

Lots of dirt bikes can be registered here but they must have a compliance plate & have been built to have been registered.
Even so unless you spend pretty big dollars on a dirt bike it won't like the long distance touring.
Go a road bike and let it deal with the dirt if required !

Thank you all for the welcoming information and support, but unfortunately i'm not going to be able to make it to the outback. Moneys the big issue and i felt it would take more than a month to properly see OZ and everything it has to offer. I could have done a short trip and seen the big cities, but im not much a of a fan of big cities.  And as i have found out in Japan, i hate to travel with out my own transportation. Its a bummer cause i had to cut New Zealand too.

My trip to south america is earning a bigger budget than expected and im anxious to get back to riding.

thanks, and if your every in the Bay look me/us up in the MOB and well take care of ya waytogo
