Flying with motorcycle helmet?

'Evening everyone!

I'm flying to CA tomorrow and will be bringing my motorcycle helmet along with me as I'm going to be doing some riding  ;D

Quick question - has anyone here flown with a helmet? I'm curious if they would cause an issue with me flying with it and putting it with my carryon luggage... I'd be flying with Helmet + Backpack + Carryon bag.

Anyone have any experience (good or bad) doing this?  Thanks  [thumbsup]

Cheers,
Adam

It's not a problem with carry on.  I would never check it.  Have fun! [moto]

I have no clue about air port security but at our local county courthouse the took my carbon-knuckle gloves but let me keep the bucket. I asked them why and their reply was that the gloves could be used as a weapon. I asked the guard which he would prefer, clock him on the chin with my glove on or over the top of the head with my helmet. LOL, he just stared at me and gave me the "I am just following rules" line.

Good luck with TSA!

Sweet  ;D

The bonus round question is ... Is it OK to bring it on when I already have a carry-on and a personal item?  Stash it overhead w/ the jackets :)

i was on a flight a couple weeks ago and a guy had his motorcycle helmet as a carry on in a duffle bag.  not sure if you could bring it on in addition to a carry on and personal item.

By the way, just got off the phone with American Airlines (I called them 5 minutes before I started this thread, WTG hold times!  ;D )

You apparently can bring a motorcycle helmet on a plane as if it were an article of clothing - so that means Personal Item + Carryon + Helmet + Jacket  ;D ;D

Glad you got your question answered. [thumbsup]

However if you are going to stash it overhead I would make sure it's in some kind of padded bag or well wrapped up in your coat.  Have you seen the way people shove stuff around in there?  Some also feel like it's ok to take other people's stuff out and move it to another bin without asking. :P

I guess I should clarify, it was a rhetorical question not a chest-thumping threat, I have a few brain cells, LOL

+100 more for when people look at you, you reply with "It's OK, I've flown with this pilot before." Please have your camera phone handy to show us their reactions, hahahahaha

Uh-just asking in any way is a bad plan. Get someone having a bad day and your helmet ends up getting confiscated, or just as bad, checked, where the baggage handlers will throw it around.

Why would you mess around with *anything* at airport security?
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

when i flew to cali in '08 I was tempted to do just that ;D

didn't have any issues having it with me in addition to a carry-on

backpack went overhead, helmet (in a bag) fit under the seat

Since when do they have baggage handlers at a courthouse?

Go re-read the thread.     ;)

No, and you won't get your baggage miss handled either, but you could get wall to wall counseling down to the basement.   ;)
