That sucks! Even more so since it was a $15k bike.
Even more so because it was completely avoidable. Cold tires + lack of respect = crash.

you might be wrong about the vespa............there is some pretty serious scooter racing going on these days and that is stunting in my book!

This thread has me laughing so much I'm crying and trying not to wet the couch. Entertaining and cringe worthy!

The SF racer should have got the S model with traction control! Boy he was throttle greedy on that first corner. It wasn't a sharp corner by any means. He wasn't even cranked over! Yeah, cold tires, cold road and big power/torque 'll do it alright.

Makes you wanna put the tire warmers on for a cold morning ride!

Actually I'm a bit put off that no one has stunted a Vespa yet!  Huh?  Roll Eyes  Grin

Motor Scooter Vespa Somersault

Some pretty aggressive Vespa riding!

I wouldn't mind learning some stunting, on a beater motorcycle.  Not so that I can show off for chicks or try to draw attention to myself, but so that I can have that much better a sense of balance on my bike, so that I don't ever panic if I pull an accidental wheelie, so that I know better the limits of my front brake, etc.  Riding with your ass on the handlebars wouldn't do much, but how can anybody argue that some stunting experience wouldn't improve your riding skills at least somewhat.

That Vespa reminds me of riding my wife's Hawk.  I'm pretty good at scraping the mid-pipe bolt in right handers!

My first Ducati and road bike!

« Reply #41 on: August 14, 2011, 08:27:21 AM »

I had some good laughs, made my Sunday morning, thanks!! On a serious side, controlled motorcycle "handling," is amazing to watch, it is a gift people have and we watch because we can only watch in awe. Until one has actually even tried racing a bike or doing anything close to it, one can sit behind a keyboard and judge. riding on the street is nothing compared to being on the track, the fastest douche bag on the street usually gets humbled on a track where they find the novice class outclasses his "street" riding! I'm just amazed at douche bags riding with no protection and....doing stupid things on roads!!!???!! Can you say bad name for all bikers? When I complain to people who don't ride about someone cutting me off or not giving me room, what I get is " if YOU guys don't ride like idiots, maybe cars would be more courteous." The old one bad apple in a bunch... So where does the circle of blame stop? It starts with you...share the road and show you are different and that you are just out to enjoy the fresh air not trying to race from light to light or dragging knees in corners, save that for the track! Rant over, carry on! applause

that's how skiers feel about snowboarders

I snowboard, and I have no problem with skiers.  I wish I knew how to do it.  The whole skier vs. snowboarder thing is such old news.  We both like to slide down the mountain, isn't that reason to be friends?

And cruisers and sporties both ride bikes but for some reason theres a bit of unspoken animosity.

But I don't ski or snowboard so...

yeah forgot to mention i'm 40 and been skiing since i was 10, before there were snowboards.

I've seen old film footage from the 1930's of people riding snowboards.  Though snowboards didn't really get popular until the '90s, you mathematically cannot have been skiing since before there were snowboards Smiley
