My bike may have been stolen.  My bike has been at the shop and I wanted to ride it today.  The shop closes at 5 pm, but my wife wasn't going to be home to about 5:30.  I needed her to take the kids before I could ride.  I was at the shop around 5:00 pm and the shop owner and I placed the bike outside.  I took the key.  My plan was to come back and get the bike as soon as I could.  I was delayed a little.  Got to the shop around 7:00 and I don't see the bike where I left it.  I'm hoping somebody at the shop decided to put the bike back inside, otherwise it has been stolen.

What should I be doing right now other than waiting until the morning to see if my bike is in the shop?  I don't think I should report it stolen because it may not be.  I would call somebody at the shop, but I don't have anyone's personal number.  DucPond opens at 9:00 am tomorrow.  I guess I'll be there at 9:00 am

I take it you don't have the owners number?  This is a tough situation to be in. I'd try to peek into every nook and cranny I could to see if I could spot the bike.

Damn man... I know you won't be getting much sleep tonight.  Undecided

Good luck!

Depending on the size of the shop (aka more than just the owner) I'd guess someone who works there saw it outside and rolled it back in.

I did look into the show room which is the front of the building to see if they put my bike in there.  It wasn't there.  However, my bike was parked next to their back entrance.  They would have have put it in the back of the shop and there is no way to see in there.

Damn, I feel so stupid for having left it out in the open for any length of time.  I thought it would be OK and just wanted to get my bike after not having it for a while.

Anybody happen to have Donny Unger's (or any of the guy's who work at DucPond) cell phone number?

You know, you're right.  It is more likely that one of the 5-6 people that work there saw the bike and rolled it back into the shop than it was stolen during the short time it was unattended.

My vote is that the bike is safe and sound....in the shop.  DucPond is too professional not to have done that IMO.

I have a good feeling. I live in Dallas, TX and I'm wearing my red Duc Pond t-shirt right now. I'm feeling the good karma! It's inside, safe and happy. I agree, a good shop wouldn't leave a customers bike out back with the forks not locked and then close up and go home. No way. I damn sure wouldn't! It may have been a lack of communication on their part but it may have worked in your favor. Hope so. waytogo Good luck getting a decent night's sleep. applause

Donnie would never leave your bike just laying around. You don't get to be one of the best Ducati dealerships in the country by being careless. I'm sure your bike is just fine. It sucks and totally understandable that you're freaking out a bit, but I'm pretty confident it'll be good to go tomorrow morning.  [moto]

chances are, they wheeled it in.  it's too much of a liability for them to leave the bike out when they close, and it'll be second nature for them to just wheel it in.

If you are worried about it call the Police. They must have an emergency contact for the owner.

Thanks guys.  Odds are that my bike is fine and in the shop.  If not I'll deal with it in the morning.  I'm feeling calm right now.  Hopefully I'll be calm when trying to fall asleep.

Thanks again.

Negative. People don't normally give us information that could be useful.

You know those lock boxes on condo complex's and elevators. It's called a knox box. You open it with a common key and a key to the paticular gate or building is inside. Firemen have the key. Police don't. Even though we probably go to the places 50 times more often.

I bet the bike either got wheeled in or an employee hot wired it and is riding the crap out of it right now.

I bet it just got wheeled in to that back storage area. They have plenty of space and one of the guys rolled it in before locking up.

Can't see them putting it up front. Those are the for sale bikes and it's too full to be sticking a customers bike there when they have 1009 sq feet to put it in back.

We could play deal or no deal with it.

It'll work like this-I'll give you say-$3K for it. If it's in back in the morning-I get it for that amount.

If it's not there, you still get the money, plus whatever insurance pays you.

It's like a Schrodinger's Ducati game show.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.
