Since 2004!

« on: March 18, 2010, 01:05:15 PM »

Just got back from my third ride of the year, early for MN. Another deer tried to take me out, came barreling across a field and up and over the road. Luckily I saw him with plenty of time and got slowed down.

Be careful out there, peeps. This has been a friendly public service announcement.

I eat bambi as often as possible, not just because it tries to kill me everytime I venture out of the city, but because it also tastes so dang good!
Glad you're safe, those deer are super stupid and fast.

Took my first ride on Tuesday and a mini herd of 3 deer ran out in front of me.  Luckily I was on a slow speed side road and I saw with plenty of time to avoid.  Usually they don't run out in front of me like that in the middle of the day but there they were.

That device that makes the noise that deer run away from is a 300 Winchester.   Seriously though, here in Wisconsin, the State Patrol tried them on their vehicles and the number of State Patrol vs Deer incidents actually went up.  I think likely from increased panic due to the strange noise.  The two deer I encountered last night would have probably stood quietly if I had just kept up a steady pace past them, but heavy monster engine braking caused them to panic and bolt.  'corse sometimes they just do that anyway.

NW ohio is infested with those damn creatures.  I've thought about carrying a handgun and hunting them from on the bike.   Do love those deer sticks though.

I've seen the deer whistles in action and they are OK, but I have serious doubts that they do any good.  Since my family got them, though, nobody has had a deer scare yet.  They are super ugly and stupid looking but maybe they could find a place on a duc that has to go through bambi infested terrain daily.
