US Patent Office:

http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=20090308677&OS=20090308677&RS=20090308677

the word box-like scares me.

I know this is just a patent but here is some issues that i have with this.

So to make the engine strong enough to handle all the stresses of the road you have to beef up the motor. which i think would make a bike heavier. Second If you get into a wreck we currently can replace or bend back frame parts.  However in a frameless bike you crash and if anything strucual breaks  your toast.  I'm curious to see what Ducati does with this technology. To be honest i don't see it going past the paper/computer stage.
