OK so Ive been just eating rice as Roxy suggested and saving up $s for stuff for bike which is a 620.  Any suggestions for a newbie blinger? She has the levers and staintune pipes (raised) which sound pretty awesome even if they do look like they should be on a Harley - rather shiney, can I do anything about this, any ideas. Nothing too mechanical as although im OK at taking things apart putting them back together is another story. Miserable day here in NW Tassie, doesnt look like Ill be riding so might as well have a

Pipes, levers and mirrors are usually where the bling journey begins.

I started with pipes. Check around, get together with other duc riders in your neck of the woods and see what you like and don't like in terms of look and how loud they are. Some pipes come with "db killers" which will reduced how loud your pipes are. Brands to look for include Termignoni (Termi), Arrow, Staintune, Sil Moto, Mivv, Quat D, Zard and others.

You are looking for "slip ons" non typically "full systems". Slip ons are just the mufflers, full systems include all the exhaust piping. You will not typically need any mods to the ECU (computer) or air box, but can do these later if you wish - doing these will maximise any additional power you might get.

Check ebay for deals, as well as the parts for sale threads on the DMF, and of course the board sponsors - most pipes that will fit a M900, M620, M695 and M800 will fit your bike. Pipes for supersports, superbikes, S4, S2R and S4R monsters wont.

If your patient, you can pick up pipes for well under $1000, my first ebay set cost me $400 and they were ducati perfoamance new ones that came from italy and I purchased locally. If this is too rich to start, then think about mirrors, levers or perhaps some carbon pieces.

Mage would you mind clarifying a couple of things?

From reading your post I got the feeling you already have pipes and levers - although having re-read after Goldie's post, maybe a little unhappy?

Beyond that there is plenty of pretty little things you can waste your money ... umm ... wisely invest your funds for aesthetically pleasing, performance enhancing modifications

Photos as she/he stands will no doubt encourage some more input, you might also want to mention what sort of riding you do and if there is anything you are happy/unhappy about on the bike.

Performance wise there is not a lot if anything you can do with a 620.
So it's basically making it look pretty, as to that your only limit is $$$ really.

If you have pipes, levers already and are happy with them you could look at things like
Indicators
Carbon bits if you like CF
Billet items like, belt covers from Speedy Moto
Frame plugs, reservoir covers, mirrors, bars if you feel like it.

Your list could be/is endless.

Mattyvas - correct me if I am wrong (wouldn't be the first time, wont be the last) but you could get an overbore kit for the 620 that takes it to 7?? 
620 are injected? air box mod then? If carbed then flat slides?

there is plenty of CF bling items for the monster. Tail unit, side covers, belt covers, chain & sprocket covers etc.

Its easy to buy and cheap to ship 'cos its light. And it also looks good.

IMO a 620 is a great place to get your bling on but it's not a bike built for huge performance mods.

Performance is a relative thing - not having a dig, but not everyone has the skill, fundage or desire to upgrade from a 620 to an S4Rs (or anything else). The 620 is a pretty good bike for the road, but not everyone has bought one as a first/learner bike ... if the bot-bot is always in close proximity to the ground ... you don't have many options.

Also 'geniune' performance upgrades are not limited to engine or power changes ... less weight, suspension, brakes, gearing, maybe a change of seat could make all the difference - or just the right amount of difference in the right place.

Of course a big bore kit doesn't make financial sense, but if modifications were based on rational choices there wouldn't be much of an aftermarket market

Very true Betty, not all mods/upgrades are engine based alone.
Suspension is a very important part of any bike.
The 620 is the guppy of the Monster world and thus been blessed with kit accordingly.
Front and rear suspension up grades can be done but I have been told that the Ohlins replacement ain't
much chop and still needs work to it's fabulous gold inards.
As to forks there are many options as we all know but in the end you are still going to have a 55-58hp Monster.

And no not every wants to upgrade to an S4Rs but then that was a special offer only.
If that wasn't on offer I would have been on an S2R 1000 or maybe even a 1000ie

Just remember that for some, 55-58 HP is more than enough (and we are talking about street riding here) ... but the choice of bike may be more about the size, weight and height of - or emotional attachment to - a bike rather than what may be an economical option.

The timing of this discussion is interesting as we were only talking about it (at home) the other day. When I proffered some engine upgrades to a certain someone's 620 all I got was a look that said: 'you can't keep up with me now ... and you want to give me more power?'. So it is all about context ... and we need that from Mage.

Totally true that sort of power does more than enough for open road riding.
And I'll certainly say far more economical then my current Monster.
It's not always about Power (as Jeremy would say) it's about how you use it.
We've all ridden with Bigiain and know how fast he peddles his 7fity, makes all of us look like traffic cones.

You suggested the Boss have more mumbo! I'd have suggest a weight handicap.

We tried that for Turismo ... only seems to work on dirt.

The engines (more or less) sort out the the power/weight equation ... its talent that lets me down.

Yes I have the staintunes and am pretty happy with them apart from the shine.  Was wondering if there was anything I can do to them to dull them down. Not having ridden for that long I'm OK with the power she gets along alright.  I do mainly open road riding and being a bit of a duck arse the height is good. I think if in the future I want more power I would upgrade.  Mostly interested in making her look pretty would be intersted in a tail chop. Is that difficult? Not reallky into the drinks tray.  Unfortunately I dont know of any other monster owners in my area think I'm one of a kind not that thats necessarily bad I seem to make the locals uneasy when I ride through Wynyard (my nearest town). So probably carbon you say. What it is you get in carbon tho dont mind acknowledging my ignorance.
