What voids warranty??
«
on:

So I was about to refresh my liquids, filters and the likes. Just the good ole basics. When a mate got me thinking. Would this void my warranty if I did it? - No I aint a Qualified Ducati Mechanic.
Bike has done almost 5000kms. Probably doesnt even need doing yet, but its a good excuse to get down and dirty with her. Yeah i know, I could ring a dealer or read the warranty conditions but then I would be able to ask you lot now would I?

IMO I don't think it should/could void your warranty but then I have never had a new bike.
So I guess my answer might carry not weight.

what does and doesn't void a warranty isn't as clear cut as you might think, especially with ducati. some dealers will veto any claim if there is the slightest hint that the bike was touched by anyone except an authorised mechanic at a dealer. others have more common sense and as long as the work carried out hasn't directly contributed to the claim they're happy to help. feel out the dealer you bought the bike from and see what their position is, for example, we have a dealer who's ex mechanic started an independant shop that does very well, that dealer won't submit a warranty claim if the independant shop or anyone not authorised has worked on the bike. sour grapes? yep. blackmail? probably. anything you can do about it? nope.
As long as you adhere to the MINIMUM service intervals changing your own oil and filter in between won't hurt, i for one say 10k is way too long between changes.

if something you did leads to a problem, then it won't be covered under warranty.
a dealer has no right to refuse any warranty enquiry. the decision as to whether a warranty repair is to be made is not up to them, it's up to the importer. the dealer submits a warranty application and the importer says yes or no. nothing is decided at dealership level except when the dealer takes it upon themselves to honour something the importer won't, ie, spend their own money to fix it.
any legitimate warranty repair can not be refused by the importer, simple as that. regardless of what any dealer says. the dealer may try to make it hard for you, but that's just them. it is annoying when you only see bikes for warranty work, but that's the nature of it.
if a dealer says that they will not cover anything because it's been worked on by a non authorised shop ring the importer. 02 9704 2800 from memory. don't bother wasting time with the dealer. and go nuts if you have to. you paid a lot of money to get told to piss off.

I dont know about other states but in Vic its so long as the mechanic is "qualified"! authorised is the manufacturers/dealers wording , but so long as the mechanic is qualified and uses the factory genuine parts they cannot knock you back!
Some dealers/manufacturers have tried to get out of the warranty, but I dont think they have been successful when it has come to the crunch!

, in order to keep within the minimum servicing requirements of the warranty your 696 has gotta have an oil change @ 12k, its next scheduled service, right? So.... if you dump the oil and feed it a new filter in
addition
to the required minimum.... 1) I'd like to see them argue that as a breach of warranty and 2) If you dont tell em neither will I
.

ime, with a couple of court cases we were around with nfi against owners, the judge won't give a rat's arse about who did what, he'll worry about the fact that something went wrong that shouldn't have and he'll need a lot of convincing it was your fault. definitely falls the owner's way.
but you have to go thru the agro of getting that far, which wears a lot of people down. and the deal attitude at the start has a big influence on the issue.

Having worked for a dealer, we never had a problem with people doing simple things like an oil or filter change
(Unless they were idiots) we preferred they got us to do it, but as long as they were smart and didn't overfill or
under fill the oil, we told them have at it!
A fresh lot of oil was a always a good thing, I can't speak for other dealers, but the guys I worked for never had
an issue with it.
