Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but my 02 Monster 750ie has a tough time keeping cool on hot summer days.  I've seen the temp as high as 225.  No obvious problems but I just don't want to do long-term damage.  Is this normal? And if not how can I get the temp down?  I'd like to put a bigger/better radiator on it but I can't find one. I've heard of using water-wetter and different oil and stuff but they seem like bandaids on too large of a problem.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

225 isn't that hot.  I requently see 240 to 250 on my M620 and that's within acceptable range.  Do a little search on the forum and you will find the answer.

That temp isn't that hot, but a radiator from NCR or Febur for the newer bikes can fit yours. They provide more cooling, and are light weight. They also cost a bunch.

Your radiator is an oil cooler only. Do not add anything to your oil like water wetter to take care of this.

Last question, are you in traffic a lot? Or are you getting this higher temp while out running about with few stops

225 is nothing, that's normal operating temp. once it gets to 310 or 320 it will flash 'hot' My old 620 usually ran at 260-280. your perfectly fine.

My 620 ran like paperstreets. 225 is just fine. You don't have a temp problem at all

Haha, okay.  Thanks everybody.  I feel a bit better, but I run with crotch-rocket guys a lot like 'busa's and gsxr's and they always seem to stay around 180.  Different bikes.  Thanks!

There's also a difference between water temp - what those bikes are reading and the case/oil temp that you're reading.

This past weekend on my S4, I was sitting in a bit of traffic going through a town and the temp got up to about 230 and then "HOT" started flashing on my gauge. THe fans didn't kick on. Is this a water temp or oil temp?

That's the coolant temp.  Check fuses first.

Coolant temp shouldn't get above the "boiling point of water + coolant range" (230 degrees, or ~110C)

Oil temp... I've heard varying opinions, but generally most folks seem to agree above 300 degrees is starting to get too hot (~150C) with an upper limit of 350 (~180C)

Coolant temp measured post radiator, oil temp measured from the sump.
