I am convinced that many of history's witch hunts and burnings

originated with one guy who couldn't take his wife's change of life

if they didn't originate with that,,, I am sure more than a few women were offered up for assessment

during the hunts because of that

(actually I realize that the forces and dynamics of witch hunts were far more arcane, complex and possibly to some extent a base-level Darwinian exercise in species regulation...remembering the proliferation of a species is based on the number of fertile females, not viable males)
