Is a steering damper really necessary?  I haven't felt even the slightest shake in my 1100, though maybe I'm not riding it as hard as others?

As for a slipper clutch, I love the sound of the engine braking on my Monster - wouldn't be the same without it!

My two cents, CDN...
+1 on engine braking!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never felt the need for a damper. I've had a couple of slappers and was able to recover, more like I let the bike recover itself. Then again I've never had a really bad life or death high speed slapper. Is $400 to $600 worth it for peace of mind? Maybe, Plus they look the balls.

Alrighty.... after some researching and more researching... I have a question about the dry clutch (seems to be my biggest Huh? about the 1100 over the 696):

Since I sadly spend an ungodly amount of my time in traffic bang head are there any concerns with having a dry clutch?  Should I focus on getting it well ventilated regardless of noise/rain?  If so, certainly I'll need to get some stainless steel springs and a vented cover; should I also get a vent-improving pressure plate or anything else?  I'd like to reduce wear as much as reasonably possible and I'd also like to prevent any kind of burning-out that might happen from having to slip the clutch in 1st while crawling along at 5mph.

So I guess the point is: help me get the best clutch for a bike that rarely moves while running Roll Eyes

Thanks guys, you've all been really big helps!  Getting anxious to go to the dealer and get this thing on order!

Make sure u pick up a rearstand. I wish I got one when I first picked the bike up. A 14 tooth front sprocket wouldn't hurt either.
Congrats on your bike. I love my S

... ugh I'm starting to annoy myself in my own thread by posting so many times...

How do you feel about that 14T sprocket?  They mentioned it at the dealer and certainly it's a cheap mod, but I kinda put it on the back burner because I did it on my 696.  It really helped the 696 around town giving me better power at lower speeds BUT it really made the 696 a bear when cruising around 65-75mph... just seemed to have to work too damn hard to stay there.  The 1100 already has much more ft-lbs down low but if it makes a huge difference (as much as it did on the 696) maybe I should go ahead and do it since most of my time is commuting between Brooklyn and Manhattan.

I like mine, it smoothed the lower end out. I think it's a good bang for your buck mod.

I can't comment on a vent-improving pressure plate. I'd just get the cover and plate you like the best.

1. you can get the 696 midpipe and the Duc.EE from Motocreations to get rid of the flapper valve so no need to get the full termi setup.
IMHO Duc.EE + 696 midpipe does clean up the clumsy flapper valve, but I dont think it can be considered as equivalent to the Termi full system.

Is a steering damper really necessary?
I've never felt the need for one either.

My first Ducati didn't have the slipper, but the 696 does. has it saved a little wheel hopping on downshifting, yes. could i have done it better and avoiding the hop by matching revs, yes. does one NEED a slipper on the street, no. not IMO.
+1 Exact same experiences and thoughts here too.

But ABS?  I've never had a bike (or even ridden a bike) with ABS, but I can see the potential safety advantages, plus its not something you can add later if you felt the need..... sooooooo.... I think I'd probably tick that box.

Heavier clutch action than 696?  Most are, it's not a big issue - I dont notice it at all any more.

IMHO a 14T front sprocket is the most improvement for the money that you'll ever do, snappier off the mark (less need to slip the clutch in 1st while crawling along at 5mph), less snatchy in the mid-range and all you lose is a little theoretical top speed.

Steering Damper - twice if i had it, it would of saved my ass from crashing
ABS- not needed, but it is defintely a luxary. Good point on the fact that its not easy to add it afterwords. Again i dont think you need it all that much, but it is a very very nice luxury.

A slipper clutch wont make your bike sound any different, your still going to get engine braking, but any excess power that will make your engine jump even higher, will cause the clutch drum to run up the ramps and free up the plates.

A dry clutch...dont worry about overheating, venting or whatever, just ride it. But dont expect much life out of a citylife bike if you ride hard in the city. I only get about 10-15k miles on my clutch because of the way i ride. I like to excerise my 1000DS motor in the city. Evil

So here's my game plan

2010 1100S w/ABS in White (w/ black trellis) with:
Termi Carbon Slip ons
Rizoma rearsets w/pass pegs
Lowered Seat
Rizoma Billet Reserviors
Clutch Slave Cyl [unless someone can tell me why easier clutch pull is a bad thing?]
Speedymoto Sliders
14T Sprocket
Competition Werkes Fender Elim
CRG Lanesplit Mirrors
Rizoma Lux Grips (Black & Gold)

Gonna do the clutch plate & cover too but I haven't decided what combo yet so I'll do it myself later.  The wife wants white & black on her 696, so I'm going to swap my tank panels with it to get matte black on the 1100s.

Annnnd here's a photoshop mock up:

I'm not sure about the red chain... it's an expensive piece of bling, but if I do go with the open clutch cover, the plate will be red and I think it looks awesome.  Thoughts?

seriously try to pick up a 696 midpipe and by the motocreations DUC.EE to get rid of the flapper valve.
not a full system like Ung said, but still opens it up.

Yeah I'll likely give it a shot.  Why did they put that valve in there anyway?

Woohoo it's ordered!  Gotta get it shipped to the dealer in Manhattan from Maryland or something like that.

Anyone on here have an ABS Monster?  I'm looking at replacing the levers right away but I'm seeing a lot of places saying "These levers are not suitable for the ABS version"... anyone know what's up with that?

Can't wait!!!!  Grin

Thinking about getting the Podium Racing EVO III levers:

Oh man... if I seriously had a crap ton of money, I'd get Magnesium engine cases & the swing arm and it'd be very awesome.  For the moment I'll stick with what I've got.

How about we talk about those exhausts though.... cause... wow... I'd just need the headers and the cans, I'll get the Duc.EE so's not to need a new ECU... what we talkin??

if u swap chains let me know, ill buy that chain off you.

congrats!

The chain has been relegated to the "down the road" bin.  But certainly I'll let you know if it happens!!  chug

And for giggles... here's the most recent photoshop update... gone more gold & less red... and well see if you can spot the other difference...
