Unfortunately I have done this to my tank as well , I was toying around with tape on the sides of the tank to check out a few ideas. When I peeled the tape off up through the knee cutouts it peeled the clearcoat off like it was cling wrap , it didn't actually break the clear coat or pull a piece out , it just stretched it and pulled it away from the silver underneath. I had a mark on the side of the tank that has been bugging me anyway so its respray time for me.                                                                                                
                                                                                                                                           That sounds like the basecoat was allowed to dry to long before the clearcoat was applied. It usually only happens on really big spray jobs but if they are painting a lot in one go and using a heated spraybooth it could happen. It should be covered by manufacturers warranty IMO .

You know the Italians. Base coat painted Friday and clear coat painted Monday!

Rule of thumb is complete the whole paint job within 24 hours.


In a few weeks I will be attempting the same thing when I paint my GPZ900.
