I rely almost entirely on my odometer for fuel consumption, but the fuel light serves as a good reminder to me when I'm down to about 20 miles or so until I'm dry.
I've never fully ran it out of fuel, but I've rode my Monster to 175 miles on a tank and felt on the verge of running out!

I rely on boobies, and don't give a damn about fuel consumption.

Fuel gauges are for sissys, real men ride in hopes of running out of gas, then they seek boobies for comfort.

My green neutral...I think it shows the traffic light from half an hour ago.
But never neutral...

I'm old enough to remember when you had to open the tank and rock the bike back and forth to take an audible slosh sampling.

I try to remember to reset the trip odometer when i fill up, but I forget half the time. I'll fill up when I see the light, or when I just feel it might be time.
If I know I'm going a considerable distance though, I'll usually map it out and plan to stop at certain points along the way and fill up whether I need it or not and take the guesswork out of it.
Oh, and boobies of course.

My fuel light goes on and off intermittently so its not reliable. My trip odometer broke. So I have to remember the mileage on the regular odo every time i fill up. And of course, boobies are always reliable.

I know pretty much how many mpg each of my bikes get.
Being old and decrepit I like to stop about every 1/2 hour for a 5 minute stretch and my routes are generally about 40 miles from a gas station at any given time in most any direction.
Boobies heal what ales you including the possibility of running out of gasoline.

I try never to petcock.
Thusly, I voted for boobies (and low fuel light.)

I think it was George Carlin who couldn't figure out why on TV you can say "prick your finger" but not "finger your prick".
