Gas light or petcock?

It's a no go on the EFI bikes, but I am old school, gimme a petcock with reserve.  I watch the odometer, but when you are out playing and not really watching miles or fuel, when she runs dry and ya flip in that extra half gallon or so, man that's sweet.

I ran out of gas on my Monster yesterday for the first time in ten years!  The warning light went on and off a few times, then stayed off until the motor died, so I vote against the warning light.  Worked fine for years, though.

Way back when, the petcock served me well.  A fuel gauge would be good, but I don't trust them too much either. 

How about those aftermarket transluscent tanks I've seen for bikes like the Suzuki DR's where you can actually SEE the fuel level?  Practical, but not at all sexy.

When I bought my bike in 2000, a guy at the dealership actually told me that when the fuel light came on it meant that the bike had automatically switched to reserve!  Dingleberry...

I'm old enough to remember when you had to open the tank and rock the bike back and forth to take an audible slosh sampling.
