Someone else built one a while back.  Pretty cool.  But I still wouldn't do that to a Monster......

I saw one at the Miller round of WSBK in SLC back in 08 and  I had mixed feelings about it. I can appreciate the skill it took to make it work, but in the end I still have to ask, "Why?"

Why not?

When I ask 'why' I'm looking for the builder's reasoning.  I don't see a reason, but maybe he does.  So I'm merely curious.

From my standpoint.  It looks like a fun exercise in modding.  A goof.  But if I was looking for a decent dual sport I'd buy a purpose built one and spare a really nice Monster.

Oh I hear you.

You can just go buy a KLR or a DRZ or a vstrom and then just ride it, and not have to engineer it.

+ tons of aftermarket support

I think the engineering of it is the best aspect of the build.  Which is cool.  Get to flex the old brain-power, break out the tools, and see what happens.

I like doing that too, but sometimes its better to buy.

Did I really just type that?!

They also built one based on a S4RS Monster...  A client bought it, and then brought it to me for 40 plus hours of rework...

The good news is that we will be racing it in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb this year, The bad new is that its still a pile of shit.. You would have to see it up close to understand the total LACK of engineering that went into it...

BEST example - when it came it, the oil cooler was mounted on a small bracket... Ready for this - - - On TOP of the front fender. It turned with the bars. With braided steel lines on it.

Hopefully it doesn't break in half from the stress at the Peak this year.. we will see
