Does anyone know if a '03 M620 that's unrestricted (never was) can be fitted with a restricter to met LAMS requirements?
I've heard conflicting information.

I'm almost certain it can't, but the place to ask for definitive answers would be the RTA (or it's non-NSW counterpart).

Agree with checking with the RTA ... but you may also get conflicting info from them as well.

I am sure this discussion has happened on here already. I believe somebody bought the restrictor from a dealer, had it fitted, blue slipped (or put the bike over the RTA pits) and had the bike re-registered as LAMS ... but perhaps it had the restrictor previously.

Was a LAMS model available in '03? This could make the difference with the RTA.

from personal experience with the same thing, the RTA does not know what there rules are regarding this...

in short.

get a blue slip done on the bike with a restrictor fitted...

double check with the person doing your blue slip that that have correctly written the LAMS bikes details on the blue slip. (24Kw Lite)
**The Restricted bike has all the same VIN details as the unrestricted bike**

Take your blue slip to the RTA and they will print you a Rego label stating it is a LAMS approved Bike.

I have done this and my bike is completely learner legal.

if you have any questions please send me a PM and i will happily help

I did some research on this a couple of months ago.. The word I got from the RTA (guy by the name of Duncan - SUPER SUPER helpful - a serendipitously good RTA experience - should have his contact details around if you PM me) was that when the 620s were brought in to the country, restrictors were fitted to a certain number of them.
The ones which were restricted by Ducati had their VINs, etc recorded and provided on a list to the RTA (or equiv).

Only bikes which appeared on the original list may ever be LAMS registered.

As far as restrictors being fitted, then removed then re-fitted - you *might* be able to work it through some sort of interstate registration thing, but I don't believe that you'll be able to get it registered with LAMS cert if it was never on the list to begin with.

Good Luck.

Well guys, I'm now the owner of a LAMS approved 620ie Monster. Story goes went into the Tassie motor registry where I explained that I've got a 620 Monster which is on the LAMS approved list (which it is) and therefore should be listed as such on the rego papers. The motor registry said that it should have come up on the rego paperwork at the time of first registering my bike. I explained that as it an '03 model and LAMS did not come into effect in Tas until 1 July '07 that it had never had the opportunity to be registered as a LAMS bike. The motor registry checked my model against the RTA's LAMS list, agreed and hey presto it was LAMS approved on the spot waytogo First good experience I've ever had with such organisations.Grin

And it's for sale, anyone interested in a good, much loved, LAMS approved 620ie? Can get an awesome rate on freight to most places

Congrats Struba!
When you say they checked the LAMS list, do you know if they just pulled up the model listing (available on the websites) or actually went and looked for you VIN in the Database?

Apparently, systems (databases, etc) differ wildly between the states and whilst the NSW RTA were able to check down to a VIN , QLD Trans were going off just a model number list at one stage.. (though I heard that from a NSW RTA employee, so it may be a little bit bullsh and may very well have changed).

...
On a slightly different note.. now that you're getting rid of the 620, what's next?

Nar they just when of the NSW RTA's listing, not the VIN

Howd'y
Anyone got a photo of what the LAMS restrictor looks like? Brought a 02' 620ie for the girlfreind recently, and on the old rego label it had LAMS marked on sticker, however I have ridden it and thought that it holds it own(Maybe removed). Have to take the bike over the RTA pits with a blue slip in a couple weeks for re-rego, and would like to get LAMS approved back on, if only a certain amount were done, be a shame to let one drop off the list. If it is removed, anyone got a spare restrictor to get get through a test at the pits?

Cheers

The RTA don't check the restrictor when you are re-registering the bike, they are only check for its road worthiness...

You need to point the restrictor out to the Blue Slip inspector...

He/she then rights on your blue slip that your bike is a 24kw LAMS approved bike...

If you do a quick Google search there is a picture of a restrictor for a monster, i cant seem to find it at the moment...

Finding a restrictor to buy is rare as hens teeth so if you find one buy it quick...

I made one just like the photo off google... It did what it was supposed to do and the Blue Slip inspector passed it
