Bought the wrong tire
«
on:
April 19, 2010, 04:28:53 AM »
Somewhere along the way I got confused when ordering a front tire of all things.
This was just as / just before the riding season started here in NW VT (early-mid March).
Got it stuck in my head I was using a Michelin Pilot Road 2CT and that's what I ordered, replacing
a Pilot Road 2.I'm feeling a bit of difference with the 2CT - not quite as grippy.
Could be the tire's new, could be the cold roads, could be winter salt season residue, could be alot of things.
With a Pilot Road 2 on the back, am I going to be sorry living with this front tire?
I'll probably run it a pound or two soft, but I'm concerned about spirited riding (no track).
I can use all the confidence I can get, already got the shitty front end to worry about (05 620).
Tell me I'll love it fine once it's better scuffed and the roads warm up?

As far as I know there are only the Pilot Road 2 and the Pilot Power 2CT. If you got the Power 2CT it's actually more grippy than the Road 2.

IIRC, there is the....
Pilot Road
Pilot Road 2ct
Pilot Power
Pilot Power 2ct
and the....Sport HPX, Power One, Power Race, and Power Pure.
For some reason I want to say that the Pilot Road 2 was the predecessor to the Road 2ct and is no longer manufactured, but I'm a Pirelli guy.
If the Road 2ct is giving you issues, especially in curves, I would probably guess it is cold roads, cold tires, or sand/trash in the road. The 2ct technology is supposed to do better in the curves with softer compounds on the sides than a single compound tire when looking at sport-touring tires.

road 2ct takes a bit more heat to warm up, and i find that they are paricularly slippery when cold, but they are pretty awesome when warmed up though.

ok. And shiny paint. And center road oil in light misty weather.
Tire make a difference there? Honest question. I haven't felt a difference.

Pilot Power 2ct
The Michelin site has a Road 2 (advertised as featuring 2CT technology) and a Power 2CT. The Road 2 may very well say "CT" on the tire itself, though.

I couldn't even tell you what's on the bike. Long as it's round I've never noticed any poor effect, 'cept those caused by the rider.

The road 2 is the predecessor to the road 2ct. I think the 2ct is a better tire having used both

OK duh I got the Power 2CT instead of the Road 2 - I mispoke about getting the 'Road 2CT'
When I say sliding, I'm talking very subtle, on a casual lean on a 25F morning.
Doesn't feel as bad as a tar snake.
Haven't been around any sphincter-tightening corners-on-rails.
I had been watching prices in the Road2 (~$125) and I saw $95 (Power 2CT whoops) and jizzed in my pants.
The description listed (I looked at this on the motorcycle-superstore site) for both tires is identical.
I generally consider conditions when cornering, and I'm no daredevil, but I do enjoy the lateral G's occasionally.
I'll go with He-Man's cold tires, and others cold road theory for now.
When the group gets over to the Adirondacks on a few of the twisties I'll know for sure.
