Author Topic: Mosby's Revenge ride, Sunday, May 2  (Read 8665 times)

I have a route the winds through the northern foothills of VA. I call it Mosby's Revenge, and it takes us through some of the most scenic areas of VA north of I66. Weather permitting, I'll be leaving Arlington late morning on Sunday, May 2. I typically stop in Upperville and Bluemont, but am open to other ideas. Let me know if you're interested and I'll figure out a place for us to meet.

Riders of all levels welcome. Plan for 250 +/- miles and a fuel stop at 125. We will nurse our broken butts at Rocklands or Rhodeside afterward.

General route:
Arlington -> Great Falls
Great Falls -> Bluemont
Bluemont -> Middleburg
Middleburg -> The Plains
The Plains -> Upperville
Upperville -> Arlington

---- UPDATE #1 ----
We're meeting at 10:30 am, in the parking lot outside of Thirsty Bernie, at the intersection of N. Glebe (Rt 120) and Lee Hwy (Rt 29) in north Arlington. We'll get on the road at 11:00 am sharp. There are a few gas stations at this intersection, as well as fast food nearby.

---- UPDATE #2 ----
I mapped the route from Arlington to Middleburg (here). I will try to get the rest of the ride mapped before Sunday.

---- UPDATE #3 ----
I've got an updated map (here) of the route. I've shortened the ride a bit as there's a 40% chance of t-storms in the evening. Plus we'll be stopping for fuel, food, and drink along the way. I'm looking for suggestions on the final leg from Centreville to Arlington, otherwise we'll "feel" our way back.

---- UPDATE #4 ----
I'm still planning to ride today, despite the occasional sprinkle. We should stay dry and I'll keep an eye on the radar as we ride. I've also shortened the route by 30 miles out west so we can start heading east a bit earlier. I'd like for us to meet at Rhodeside after the ride if the rain holds off.

---- UPDATE #5 ----
Last and final update includes the final route taken (here). We took I66 east after the final marker (H). Lesson learned: avoid Leeds Manor Rd (marker C) unless you have a good reason to be up there.

I'd be interested if I wasn't going to be MotoCrewing the Avon Breast Cancer Walk through the DC Area over the course of the weekend.

I'd love to be able to meet ya'll in Bluemont. My big concern is I only get 110 miles on 3.5 gallons of gas. I'm 10 - 15 miles east of Middleburg so I could be there also. Any idea of times @ Bluemont or Middleburg?

Well, the ride open to all skill levels. I was going to decide on the pace after surveying the folks who show up. The goal of the ride, for me, is to get everyone home safe. If everyone wants a "spirited" ride, then we'll have one. But I don't want anyone trying to keep up and getting hurt.

Hey, we can work in more fuel stops to accommodate you! I'm going to aim for first stop at Bluemont General Store, at 12:30 +/-, if you want to meet us there. We'll stretch, snack, drink for 20-30 minutes. From there we'll head down Snickersville Turnpike (734), and turn west on Rt 50 towards Middleburg. My wild ass guess for time at Middleburg is 1:45'ish. We'll stop for gas there (I think there's just the one station at the east end of the village).

If folks want to stop for lunch in Middleburg, we'll do that and adjust the route a bit.

Tentatively in. My wife is dragging my sorry @$$ to a party the night before. But I should be able to make it in time.

I plan to be there.  My carbie is getting about 110 as well.  I dont mind a middle of the road ride not spirited but not slug either.  None the less I will ride.   As with most rides I have done.  No one gets left behind regardless of the pace and what ever pace you choose should be one you are MOST comfortable with on your bike.  dc

Another bump. See update #2 for a map of the Arlington -> Middleburg route. I'll try to map out the rest of the ride today/tomorrow.
