Cutting down cans

I have Termignoni carbon fiber slip-ons on my bike. I think it would look a lot better if they were about 4 inches shorter. Now, i'd hate to cut these really nice expensive mufflers up but I also really want to. What are your opinions on this? Also, if I do decide I want to cut them, whats the best way to do it. I was thinking I would drill the rivets of the end caps and pull it apart. Then cut it down. What kind of blade/saw would work best so its a nice and clean cut? Thanks for your input.

I just chopped 3 inches off my high-mount termis this week.

most folks use an electric chopsaw, but I didn't have one, so used an electric mitresaw. It was a smaller one, so I had to be real careful and make 2 cuts.
anyway, tape up where you will be making the cuts, measure and mark it carefully. and wear gloves and a mask  b/c carbon fibre dust and splinters are nothing to fark with. you definitely want to use some sort of electric saw. metal blade would be good b/c you have thin steel core in the pipes. after taking off the rivets, the cap won't want to come off on its own, so use a rubber mallet to kind of coax it off a little bit at a time.

read the other threads and you will know what to do. just double check what you are doing and work slowly and carefully and you will be golden.

Just cut 70mm or so off my Akro CF can a few weeks back.
Love the deeper sound, I too was worried about messing it up and costing myself $$$ to get a new one.
I used a dremel to slice mine, it was a little easier as my pipe is not round.

End result is fantastic, fits in nicely with the tail chop.

Good idea with the Dremel. I'd be much more comfortable doing it that way than with a sawzall or something.

I took mine down by 6" this weekend.  I used a chop saw and it went through them like butter.  The hardest part for me was getting the end caps back on.  I was scared of breaking them, but ended up have to use a rubber mallet to get them back on.  Sounds even better now.
