Last time I was in Tennessee a few state troopers decided to raise some money by writing citations to about 8 in our group for improper placement of tag. That's about $140 per ticket times 8...hmmm, let's do a litle math...carry the one.....

I haven't run into that problem, but very often at Deals gap & The Snake (421) they'll pull that ~

They get testy up on the Snake.  Moreso than Deals Gap to hear the locals speak.  I just ride nearby roads and make an appearance at the hotspots for fun ~

Looks like a nice trip! I try to stay away from the heavily patrolled areas. If you're up that way again, I just found a nice loop up near Old Fort, NC. ---- Take I-40 to Old Fort/US 70E, and turn right on US-70E for a few miles, then turn left at N Carolina 80N/Lake Tahoma Rd (this is a great stretch) and head up the twisties to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Take a right onto the parkway and follow it until you hit 226, take a right and follow 226 back down the mountain back to I-40. Just keep on the lookout for bicycle riders on NC 80N, saw quite a few who dropped in from the parkway for a mountain run. Wish I would have found this area sooner.

For you dirt lovers and scrambler owners, curtis creek road from US70 to the blue ridge parkway is a blast -- just stay away from it with you're on the monster (gravel/cliffs/no guard rail) .

ppl should share some nice routes they've found in the carolinas -- with summer here there will plenty of time to explore.

80 is a great run, so is 226!  I might hit Curtis Creek anyway, I'm not concerned with riding on gravel ~
