So I'm finding more and more that if I slow down to a crawl just before I get under the big sensor rigs at the toll and slowly inch forward it works almost every time. I've got my EZPass mounted on the handlebar risers.
I'm wondering if everyone can try their different positions/holders and try this slow-through method and see if it reads. I'd love to find an alternative placement for it but this has been the best so far. Slowness is the key though. If you go slow and almost hit the barrier then you'll have to hand it to one of the guys.

what happens if you run the EZ pass toll, but have your plate registered? will they just charge you?
I ran 3 tolls with my EZ pass and it didnt hsow up on my EZpass bill and tthey never send a bill to me. ( my plate is perfectly visable).
im thinking im just going to start running tolls.

Nothing. You never get a bill, you never get a ticket. Nothing.

depends on the toll. In jersey they're equiped with Cameras, they just bill you as if you had the EZPass.
In NY, most are without camera (any of the liftgate styles typically are camera-less). You run it, if the cop gets you, you have a fine, plus a charge, plus an administrative fee, if they don't catch you, you're golden.

I bought an ezpass holder on ebay. It is very simple, it is a u shaped clip with one suction cup. I put it on the windscreen between the guages, never moves and works all the time

From my experience running through the toll booths I've never been billed or ticketed. That's with all bridges/ tunnels in the tristate with cameras including the GWB. On the car is a different story, but never on the bike.

My sister has one of those on the windscreen on her SV650 and it un-suctioned while on 84 east. It's gone now and she's getting a replacement ezpass. I still just keep it in my pocket and hold it over my head when I'm close to the toll. That way I never lose it and it usually reads, although even this way at times the system won't register my pass and I have to wait for an attendant.

i rode down to NJMP a few days ago. Tag SUCKED.
Got stuck on Verrazanno bridge (it has a boom lift). Car behind us got pissed off and buzzed us on the way pass in his POS corolla. $5 cash, or $3.98 bike.
Then on the turnpike, i ran it, it would not read on either end. $free
Then the same thing on the way back. $free
Then on the Outercrossing to 440 in Staten Island, this time it said "GO, EZPASS NOT READ" so im not sure what that means. the other times nothing happened at all.
I checked my EZPass account online, and none of the stuff registered except the verrazanno.

I've tried a few different methods for getting the ezpass read at toll booths and regardless of what the EZ Pass reps tell you, "just put it in your jacket pocket" doesn't work, ever. I've had the most success with it taped or velcroed to the top part of my backpack and crawling through the center of the lane. The idea is to mimick the exact position of the ezpass tag in a car, in the center of the windshield, as the sensors are overhead and alligned for that set up. It really sucks though because the center of the lane is full of oil and gunk and although the method has worked, its still not 100% effective...Damn you Northbound HHB!!
Oh and don't blow through tolls in Jers, even the .35c tolls are equipped with cams.
My daily commute consists of 3 tolls and I'm determined to find something that works everytime everywhere, I'll keep you posted.

how much was the "fine"
you have an ezpass, its not like you are trying to "get the system"
it just doenst work half the time.

LOL, believe me, I've considered a similar set up.
He Man, the fine was $25 but a phone call took care of that, just had to pay the .35c. Most Jersey ez pass lanes have 15mph speed limits and no booms, so for fear of unwillingly getting my tail chopped, I don't slow crawl through, this was my second violation notice.

My EZpass gives me an error when it reads, so i always run the booth and ive never gotten a picture of my plate with charges.
It works when i use it at a boom and i hand the EZPass to the lady.
If i stand there a cop shows up and takes it then clicks the box with my ezpass. ig et cahrged nothing. I found out through other people, they just click a button, and you never actually get charged for it.
So how much trouble can you get with running around with a broken EZpass? They dont know unless i tell them right?
I can start taking the battery tunnel to get into the city and cut chunks of time off my commute around NY.

I'm tellin' you guys, just register the bike with ez-pass and drive thru the tolls regardless of whether it reads or not. In the rare case they call you a violator, just call them like xianD did, it only works if you're in their system obviously, so make sure you're registered.
In the situation I come to a gated toll, I pull the ez pass out of my pocket and hold it with my clutch hand. I can still clutch and work the bike fine while holding it. It ALWAYS reads when I have it in my hand and it NEVER reads while its in my riding jacket.
If you don't want to go through the trouble of registering just do a tail chop and cover your plate when you go thru the toll.
Its that "EZ"

mine reads, it just doesnt work.
But Ive been doing waht Airborne said since the beginning of the summer. Ill just pretend like it read and go on. Ive never had any problems what so ever. Just dont stop, cause when you do, its when a cop comes over and ask you to pull it out.
The only ones i had to actually sit and pay were the ones with a boom. And if im going thru one, i know mine is not going to work, so i have it pulled out already.
Mine reads if its in my jacket pocket. But it just gives an error, so i assume theres something wrong with the chip, corrupt data or something.
