99 750 brake upgrade...advice?

hey guys, just getting ready to start buying pieces and parts to convert my dreadful single front disc set up to a twin.
Any advice what is the easiest donor bike to start to rob parts from? I see multiple 695 front caliper sets all over the internet...will they mount up to my forks on the 99 750? Seems like thats the path of least resistance (and cost effectiveness) ...
Obviously I need to make a decision on wheels too..

probably not. your 99 likely has the 40mm mount calipers, rather than the 65mm mount calipers of the newer bikes. You'll want to find 40mm mount calipers which are likely on all 99 or 2000 and earlier bikes. I cannot remember which year they changed to 65mm, but on my 1999 they are 40mm goldline, single pin calipers.

and I certainly don't want to switch to the 695 forks...so I presume to do this cost effectively, then I need to locate a front end from a 900 then.
Thanks guys!

well, if you found front brakes from a bike with 65mm mounting, you could upgrade forks at the same time to Superbike forks - your top triple gets bored out to 53mm diameters, and your lower triple is shimmed down to 53mm diameter, but then you'd have to replace front axle, wheel, and speedometer. A great upgrade, but quite spendy.

The single disc 750 still ranks in the top ten in MCN's braking distance. Nothing awful there. The only reasons for doing the upgrade are for bling or for the track. But, if you want do this you need a 40 mm spacing single pin caliper, brake lines and a 16 mm. bore master.

I agree with howie.
Change your pads, bed them in properly, and you'll have all the brakes you could ever want.

If you still want to do this then you need a disc a caliper and a master cylinder from a twin disc bike.
your bike has 1 320mm disc. iirc the 695 has 2 300mm discs. the 620 does anyways and so do 800 s2r's.
Your choice of donor bikes is quite wide. just mnake sure its a 40mm caliper.
What i did once i'd read most of the previous threads on this topic was to keep one disc. but i still fitted the bigger master cylinder and i fitted good pads.
The extra weight of the extra disc and caliper and pads and line adds up.
And the disc is a reciprocating part. meaning that your engine has to spine it which takes more effort that a single disc.
the long and short of it was that it will have a negative effect on performance. How big or noticeable that effect is is open to debate.
it certainly was noticable on a 600. whether the 750's extra oomph makes any difference i can only speculate.
If looks are the main motivation then yeah go for it. but if its braking performance then they are not nescessary.
