What are these things?  Why are they falling off my Monster 695? [coffee]

They're dampers that go between the fins on your heads.  Some of mine fell off, and I encouraged the rest to fall out a couple of weekends ago.  The consensus as to their reasoning for being there is to reduce any noise made by the fins vibrating.

Vibration dampers placed at the factory between the fins of the air-cooled bikes so they don't 'ring' while running there by making the bikes quieter so they can pass noise regulations in order to be sold in the US and other countries.

Get a small hook tool and take the rest of them out.  Other than the above, they do nothing....

Well, they are remarkably effective at getting their owners to ask WTF is going on.  [laugh]

I've never counted, but I'll guess 30 to 40.

Count how many fins there are, and minus 1 for each column of fins there are.   [cheeky]

Not too sure how exact that will be, but it should theoretically be pretty damn close.  ;D

...or you could just look between the fins and count them.  ;)

From the title I was expecting to see a mans testicles.

I actually counted the ones off of a DS1000 engine once.    84!

But, the small case motors (your 695) would have less because they have less fins.  Maybe 60 or so.

Your duc shat black pucks too?  From the frequency of these types of posts that i have read, i figured it was a fin puck issue.  SCORE, i got it right.
No biggie.  It is exactly as all those who posted before me have said, not a big deal.

COP TZR

worthwhile to leave them in place or yank them all out?  Does it really get that noisy?  Maybe I can have an artificial dry clutch sound....LOL!!!

it rings, not clatters.  No fhe but apparently it can get pretty loud

Can someone who took them off clarify whether or not the noise difference is noticeable?  Is it a good/bad sound.  If anything I think the pucks restrict air flow to the fins but I always thought they served some performance purpose.  If not, I'll have to knock them out; I guess.
