There are some internal gotchas to watch out for - I got caught by the sprag clutches being different on my '99 to the '00 part number, but fortunately you can build a "good" '99 sprag clutch out of bits from a new '00 one and the bits from the old '99 one that don't wear out...
I think the problem with the spares books is that Ducati only started publishing them as PDFs in 2000, for earlier models you need the Ducati dealer software package (or the dead tree parts books).
