MEDIA RELEASE Henry recommends turning road fees into a single tax on kilometrestravelled? How? A tracking unit on every vehicle like Spain? To workit would have to be national. Tracking, fining and tolling road usersanywhere in Australia, anytime, police and toll companies will lovethat. Taxing distance travelled discourages travel. That's bad for a lot ofbusinesses, especially in tourism. It's unfair to people on the urbanfringe and in regional Victoria who are forced to drive further forwant of public transport. More benefit to the whole community to tax fuel with a lower rate forcountry suppliers, including alternative fuel suppliers. A fuel taxreplacing other road charges would be fairer. It's collected at thepoint of sale. A fuel tax would encourage lighter, cleaner vehiclesand that's good for the environment and for our infrastructure. Attach compulsory third party insurance to licences. http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/abolish-tac-antibike-tax.html Damien CodognottoIndependent Riders' Group.Melbourne.0419 846 855.
