Just a simple poll. Please select what your health coverage is, and how you ride.

I live in a country with socialised medicine, and am constantly amazed with the schemozzle that you lot call health care.

Fully covered with insurance.  I commute 3 or 4 times a week, and ride on weekends.

The schemozzle is your "socialized" medicine, which is merely an extremely high priced health care plan paid via tax. If I lived in AU I would have paid an extra $45 K in tax last year. Hmm, 45K in tax or employer paid health care and within driving distance to dozens of world class hospitals and a $10 co-pay?

How did you come up with the number $45k. I'll be the first to admit I'm no authority on the subject, but from what I found by googling, it's a 2.5% tax for the high income earners that don't have private insurance. That means you would be making $1,800,000.00 a year. That's pretty good money, I wish I made 2.8% of that. Now I suppose that's just federal tax, and there is probably additional state taxes that I'm not accounting for.

Wow.  I earn well above average income, and my total tax last year was (checks) $17K, including the paltry medicare levy.  If you're earning the sort of dough that would mean you'd pay $45K in tax, then you bloody well should be.

So your employer pays your health insurance.  What, you think they magic up the money?  It comes out of your paypacket.

I'm in the Army, which is pretty much socialized health care.  It works pretty well for us but the doctors we have are usually second rate.  It's almost always better to get a referral to a civilian doctor.  On the upside, I didn't receive a single bill when my son was born and my wife had an emergency C-Section.  It works okay for the military, but I don't like the idea for the rest of the country.

Didn't select the riding exposure, but I've commuted and riden on weekends.  Full coverage insurance.

Don't confuse health care with health insurance.

Health care is when one goes to the doctor, er, hospital, etc.

Health insurance is a bet on risk; nothing more.  It is NOT access to health care.

My insurance coverage is somewhere between full  and emergency only.  I also scuba dive so really need to cover my ass.  Unfortunately, at 54 y/o, it's expensive and rising.  One vote here for single payer!
