Update:  No significant change since last time.  His lungs are functioning a bit better and things still look decent, but he's still in ICU and their keeping a close eye on him.  I'll keep you all posted.

Thank you again for all of the well wishes.

They officially diagnosed my brother with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) yesterday.  He had a CT scan and they found another pocket of fluid in his chest, which they have already started to drain.  There is a little more blood around his spleen but not enough to cause too much concern.  The biggest issue right now is his lungs.

He had a pretty good night and they were able to reduce the percentage of oxygen they're giving him this morning.  It's a matter of baby steps right now, but he's moving in the right direction.  His stay in ICU will be longer than we expected and we don't know when he'll get out.  People who have survived ARDS say they can remember some parts of conversation in their presence so we continue to talk to him and keep a positive vibe going.  I'll give you all an update when I can.

Thanks, Mousey!

Justin took another small step forward today.  They have been able to lower the amount of work the machines are doing, and his body is picking up the slack nicely.  We're hopeful that it will continue.

He's making more progress, though it's slow-going.  He has a new respiratory therapist who has made quite a few changes, and they seem to be making the difference.  Hopefully it continues.

All of your well-wishes are very appreciated!

Positive progress continues!  The respiratory therapist feels that if Justin continues to do as well as he has, he may be off the respirator by the end of the day.  I hope so!
