Well I have this fantasy that I win a motorcycle magazine competition $30,000 bike makeover that has to be spent on the bike you have, they will not give you cash (sorry honey I have to spend it on the bike).

I have a 1995 Monster.

Well, I would run big bore late model 996 cases with 98 bores for 1100-1200 capacity on the stock stroke for 10,000+ rpm.
Ti rods and racing style light crank, MBP heads with 45/40 Ti valves, ST2 cams, light primary gears, magnesium outer cases, Ti exhaust, FCR41s on short manifolds with frame mods to suite.

As much Ti/carbon/magnesium for wheels, tank, bolts, etc to have a 115hp/300lb air cooled Monster streetbike. And Ohlins all round.

(Edit) It wouldn't be hard to rack up that sort of money. And I honestly would do it if I had the money rather than say buy a SF because I like the old air cooled carb Monsters so much. Joe Tortora at SuperMoto built an air cooled 944 Squalo that weighed 348lbs (158kg) (with fuel) back in around 1999. Money was no object. It cost around $45000-00 US back then. I have kept the article. As much as possible was done to get the weight down. They didn't go crazy on the motor. It was a 90 hp 2 valver out of a 1998 900SS, one of the last carbed ones.

That article has inspired me ever since.

Heavy wheels, wrong-facing vertical head, stupid amounts of time and $$$$ thrown at it, center stand only, cable-driven tachometer only....

Blinged out 30mm Ohlins suspension up front, and some nice out rear.

Either the 05 999 swingarm, or a really nice RAM magneisum single.

I would love to put the new DS1100 into a Monster S2R1000 frame.  Or would be nice to get that motor into my 2001 Monster.

I would get the Monstrada engine (1000DS) fully built...red heads, cams, ecu flash, custom map...the works. I figure ~$12K.

In addition, I would send the whole thing to Duck-Stew to have the wiring re-worked, engine cleaned and painted, gauges removed and replaced with some sick Motogadgets unit, lighter wheels, front end re-done to look exactly like I want. Basically, as much as I could get for the remaining $18K.  Evil

It better be a used Lotus coz a new one here is worth three to four times as much.

Titanium Frame.
All the bells and whistles (BlackStone Wheels, top of the line Brembos, Ohlins, etc.)
Supercharger with some sort of MW-50 injection setting to provide WEP.
Styled (somehow) like a Reggiane Re.2005 airplane  Evil

That plane looks part Me 109, part Spitfire and a little bit of Mustang. All that but with Italian styling. You'll need more than 30 grand.

I see thin alloy skinned, riveted fairing and boom tubes with side exit engine exhaust nacelles. I see alloy tank and wheels polished only to a satin finish. I see 1940s style instrument gages.
