I've become an old man on an old man's bike

Yeah couldn't agree more. The more people's fav roads are targeted the great the chance of riders/drivers
doing sillier things on any sort of road anywhere. While I don't agree with knee down scraping on public roads
and people riding/driving at crazy speeds like an un-named rider on a recent trip up North West who was proud
to tell us he clocked speeds of 250-270kph  bang head

Crazy on public roads really, but targeting riders who seem to be doing a controlled overtake at only a slightly raised
pace. Policing policies are often out of touch with what the Force on the ground like to enforce.

I agree with you Mattyvas, to a point.

They overtook on an unbroken line (As I have said before, I'm no angel I've done it myself)
But if Motorcycle riders are given leeway to cross the unbroken line, then we will have cars trying it on
then Trucks, tractors, etc
It will be a free for all, then someone will get killed or badly injured, then there will be an outcry of
why wasn't something done, Won't somebody think of the Children, Etc.

Maybe people crossing the unbroken lines is not so bad in Vic and NSW as it is up here in Cairns (and greater Region)
but is shockingly bad up here, Some of the Semi drivers up here would scare the Piss out of you!!!  Shocked
but because the Cops focus on the whole speed issue, it get's ignored for
the sake of raising more Cash. and it will take a massive tragic accident to force people to focus on it again,
but as we all know the accident would be blamed on excess speed, and within a couple of days people will be
back to there old habits and driving however they want on the mountain ranges.

I for one would cop it on the chin if I got got caught doing it, I knew I did the wrong thing, I wouldn't like it!
but would would pay the fine and move on.

But I have to say, ok, ping em for crossing the lines, that's one thing, but then the Speeding fine on top of that
is just going to far.

CD, I understand and agree.

The problem we have been facing is not only the lowering of speed limits (makes it easier to cut back on maintenance too) but also the changing of broken lines to unbroken lines.

For example a road may have had a limit of 80km/h previously and broken lines ... now the limt is 60 and the lines are unbroken. Brings a whole new meaning to the 'triple bottom line':
. less costs for maintenance
. increased revenue from 'speeding' while travelling at speeds previously deemed safe
. increased revenue from overtaking on unbroken lines where previously it was deemed to be safe

odd question and probably off topic but if you overtake on the unbroken line, dont you have to cross over the line for it to be an offence?  Say the car was pulling to the left to let you past, that is not an offence?

Note: I do realise both bikes crossed the line that were reported....but if you had enough room to sneak past....

oh and at least there were indicators used!

Not an ex-spurt by any means, but I believe its an offence to share the same lane (side by side) or some thing like that.

i thought the double white lines were for bikes , dont get all emotional but every body who rides bikes breaks the law on most occasion even accelerating up to the prescribed speed limit quickly is breaking the law its just how much you break the law and cd if you get a bike here you will have too learn  a how too ride again cause you are aloud to cross the to the other side with all the shit and rod kill on the road you have too make your mind up ride through the shit or go round most here choose to go around and the plods agree cheers bazz

Unless you are on a pushbike ... but 3 or 4 abreast (as can be common on the old road) is not legal.

Ahh the marsupial slalom ... remember it well.

But to tie together Tassie roads and unbroken/broken lines ... it was quite the revelation riding down there. The unbroken lines (if there are any lines at all) start in the corner when you can look through and see if there is any oncoming traffic and act accordingly.

If the coast is clear and you are being frustrated by slow moving traffic it is infuriating to be held back by and unbroken line ... and these are the kinds of things that make people careless/reckless.

But this would also mean that the verges need to be well maintained, something else which effects the bottom line.

I'm not against crossing the Double lines on selected occasions, I have done it on more than 1 occasion  waytogo
It's just a sad state of affairs when a simple run up a mountain range could earn you a loss of license for
only minor indiscretions.
