Anyone dare to challenge the roads of southeastern Ohio???

The DesmOhio boys are a great group.  I was/am a member when I lived out there a couple times.

Most Ducs are in the Columbus area.  There are a few on the eastern side due to a dealership in Akron too.

A bunch of the guys from PennDesmo (see the link in my sig) hit those roads up too as it's not that far of a jaunt from our headquarters in Pittsburgh.

I've heard nothing but good about those roads.

Hit up the Hocking Hills area.  Around 56 and so.

Double Eagle does live in SE Ohio.

I'm from Chillicothe and live in Cbus.  Where abouts are you?

I would be happy to meet up with you and go for a ride and show you some of the roads I know.  Maybe make a stop in Athens to check out the scenery.

I'm in Dayton which is a couple hours away, so I don't personally know those roads well enough to tell you a route, but anything in that area is pretty good.

Man there are so many great roads I can't begin to tell you all of them.

If you have a map of Ohio, all the roads within a 35 mile radius of Old Man's Cave State Park in the Hocking Hill's would be a good start.

(Old Man's Cave lies about 14 miles S on Rt. 664 off State Rt. 33).

Rt. 93 from MacArthur N to Rt. 22, which is N of Rt. 33.

Rt. 56 between South Bloomingville and Athens which is where Ohio U. is ( runs kind of E and W ).

Rt. 278 which runs from Rt. 595 S to Lake Hope ( that I'm familiar with). Rt. 595 is N of Rt. 33.

Rt. 374 off Rt. 664 N to Rt.180 , go right on 180 for a few miles to pickup 374 to the left again.

Thompson Ridge Road off of Rt. 374 to the left to Laurelville at Rock House before you come to Rt. 180.

There are a lot of other roads that run off the roads I've mentioned .

I'm a lone Wolf when it comes to a lot of things ( including riding) .

I ride once maybe twice a week and not much at all when it's hot  ( since I'm retired I can choose my days ).

Wifey's from Middletown... there are a few good roads down that way.  122 headed west out of Middletown has some decent curves.  Once you get down into that whole Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana area near Cinci, the hills force everything to get twisty.

You're not too far from northern KY, and the Thoroughbred Duc guys have a lot of good roads mapped.  Check their page, too.

How far out are you going to be in SE Ohio. I'm from there. If your'e going to be out by OU then you'll easily find some nice roads to ride on. But watch out for the Man! State Troopers don't mess around.

I am sort of partial to the roads in Brown County, Indiana (Bloomington area.......but that is Monroe County)

There's a great road that runs out of Nelsonville on Rt. 33 N  of Athens , I think it's Rt. 78 .

It meanders through some small towns but eventually heads towards McConnellsville on the Muskingum River.

It is the road to Burr Oak State Park and about 9 miles beyond McConnelllsville you can see the " Big Muskie " Coal Shovel that AEP used to Strip mine most of Eastern Ohio over the last 40 years. It sits right off the side of the road in a small park .

Rt. 78 out close to Burr Oak is a series of mile long sweepers and then lots of ups and downs and very tight turns w, recently new asphalt.


Probably the best way to come is !-71 to Mt.Sterling ,then over to Circleville on Rt.22, then on the East side of Circleville take Rt. 56 to the right and follow it to Laurelville.

From Laurelville  you can go 3 different ways:

1) You can go right and follow 56 to Jim Bob's Biker Bar on your left as you come into South Bloomingville.

It's mainly a Harley and Cruiser bar but you may want to stop for a Burger or something to drink.

At the Junction of 56 and Rt. 664 there in this tiny Burg of S. Bloomingville you can go right on 56 for very scenic riding which will take you through the Ash Cave State Park and then you can continue on 56 until you come to a Fork in the road where if you go right on Rt. 278 will take you about 6-7 miles through the Zaleski State Forest to Lake Hope or you can continue on 56 another about 14 miles to Athens and Ohio Univesity.

I'm not familiar w, any roads S of Athens but it looks like on the map that Alternate US Rt. 33 is a nice winding road towards the Ohio River.

Before you come to Rt.278  you will come down a big hill to a stop at Rt. 93 which if you choose to go left will take you into Logan . It's a good winding road . Logan is on St.Rt. 33. If you were to go right on 93 you would go to MacArthur and on towards Rt. 50

Also before you come to Rt. 278 you will pass a general store called Etta's and Rt. 328 goes off to the left . If you were to take Rt. 328 you would end up on the South end of Logan across Rt. 33 at a traffic light. Turn left and a mile or so up the road is another Sunoco Station.

From there you can take the Street you just came off of right out of the station about 2-3 blocks and turn left back across Rt. 33 and you are on Rt. 93 which will take you back to Rt. 56.

2) When you get to Laurelville go right on Rt.56 and about the 2nd or 3rd street on the left is Thomson Ridge Road which will wind back and forth along the Ridge line over to Rt. 374 There you can go right towards Rt. 664 and Old Man's Cave State Park if you turn left once you come to Rt. 664 or turn right on Rt. 664 and in about 5 miles end up in South Bloomingville at Rt. 56 ( see 1 ).

3) In Laurelville you can get gas at the Sunoco Station immediately on your left just before the traffic light in the middle of town..

If you turn right on to Rt. 180 you will travel a fairly meandering open road that if you look for Hoffman Road off to your right about 3-4 miles out of Laurleville , it's a two lane but not stripped country road w, lots of curves and when you come upon Buena Vista Rd. turn right and at the top of the hill where it interects Jack Run Rd. turn right onto a curvy down hill then valley road that meets backup w, Rt. 180.T
Then turn right for a couple of miles to Rt. 374 to the left and follow it to either Thompson Ridge Road on the left at Rock House or keep going to Rt. 664 and go to Old Man's Cave State Park or right down to Rt. 56 and ( see 1 ) .

Those are just some more of the roads I can think of that I ride and enjoy.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that posted here.  I just got my internet back on the grid. I like say to say that I was trying a new greener way of living but...it wa actually bad wiring.     Everything seems to be working now.  Anyways, thanks for a lot a great info!  I am in Cincinnati so I am within easy striking distance to these.  Now, I just need to start marking up my map.
