zero life expentency??

is it due to the hardness of these particular belts? or are the stock belts the same hardness?

Chris,

Just catching up on this thread.  Thanks for the reply and additional relevant information to my questions.

Stock belts are same hardness. All belts are. It's trippy to think that the rubber belts wear down steel sprockets.

Yeah, the Bucci belts are OK ... but they fall in the column of shouldn't do that. I feel like we all dodged a bullet with those. They were on 3 bikes in my house for lots and lots of miles.
Does this mean you will give me a discount on new belts to replace the three sets of Bucci belts I bought from you and are currnetly on my two ST2 bikes and my M900ie?  ;)

The problem I have is that you are bringing up theoretical concepts which could be irrelevant to the product and task at hand. These kinds of issues Ducati owners are raising take the timing belt industry to task over problems solved long ago and no longer of concern. It's like going into Home Depot and quoting obscure standards or references for their nails. Or screws. You get the idea. You are an engineer. come up with the testing protocol and we can discuss supplying you with belts for your experiments and testing at no charge.

Chris,

I am also an engineer and would like to take you up on your offer. I have came up with a standardized test for the belts. The test consists of installing the exact fit belts on my bike and riding at high rpm for many hours. I then do a visual inspection and give my stamp of approval. Do I still get a set at no charge?  ;)

Seriously though, I have a set on now with about 5000 miles and I am running factory suggested tension. So far so good.

Raux, I wouldn't necessarily rush out to dump the sprockets. People have been using them for 2 decades. I have personally installed plain aluminum aftermarket sprockets more than once. And my own M966 104hp "pongo" had the black anodized STM ones.

IMHO, so long as we keep our eyes open, we can continue on with the status-quo. I haven't yet seen evidence that the sky is falling, and 20 years of status-quo isn't something to disregard. And that's because of the great combination of short maintenance interval + over kill of timing belts as a technology.
