Does anyone on here have any experience with the following?

http://www.ducati-kaemna.de/cms_en/katalog.htm?&view=artikel&artikel=1864
http://ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/engine.html

If so, what can be expected?  Thanks.

I have two sets of the 91mm pistons from CA-Cycleworks going together into 750 engines (799cc's).  Both engines have yet to be completed, but I can say that the pistons are top-notch quality!  The 800 overbored to 91mm yields 859cc's and is the limit on a stock crankshaft equipped 803 motor (800).

I did the Mahle (859) kit in my 800 along with a few other minor changes. We have HP and Torque increases, along with a little weight savings.  Cheesy More work is being done now, DS heads, 900 cams etc. etc. I did this work to make the bike different from the norm.

You could get a lot more bang for the buck by swapping in a 1000ds engine.

If you live in the US I suggest you go with California Cycleworks.  Chris knows his stuff and will work with you.  Decent prices with excellent technical support, plus he is a board sponsor waytogo

you could get a s2r 1000 motor for 1500-3000 on ebay, get more power, a dry clutch and maintain the flexibility that comes with running a stock motor.

plus you can sell your 800 motor to make the difference

You could use any DS motor as long as it isn't from a Multi or Hyper (won't fit with your Monster swingarm).  A while back Chris from CA-Cycleworks mentioned that he had a DS 1000 for sale.  You could check with him.

If you like the wet clutch of your M800, you could try a wet clutch DS1000 from a GT1000 or any 2008+ Sport Classic.  I saw a DS 1000 from a GT1000 a few weeks ago on eBay.  It may be re-listed.

It would be really cool to use the latest 1100 DS from a new generation Monster and install it in the classic frame, but I haven't seen any for sale yet.

It's more than the motor, right?  Don't you need the computer, wiring harness, extra coils & plug wires, throttle bodies, etc., etc., etc.?

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

How do you hook up the extra spark plugs?  It seems unlikely that converting an 800 to a 1000DS is as simple as dropping in a new motor.

To put a DS1000 motor in a bike with an 800, here's what you'll need:

DS1000 ecu (IIRC it's got different pin-outs than the 800 does) and you'll likely be adding pipes so getting it re-flashed is a good idea
DS1000 header for the proper rear suspension
DS1000 wiring harness & coils
DS1000 intake manifolds (from throttle bodies to heads)

You can re-use your throttle bodies (providing the throttle position sensors are the same as there are a couple different ones in use) and you can re-use your airbox if you choose.

Wouldn't you also need a cluster and keys for the immobilizer to match with the new 1000DS ECU's immobilizer setup?

If you get the DS ecu re-flashed, you can get the immobilizer turned off.  No need @ that point for keys & cluster.

Ah excellent point. I didn't see the re-flash mention. Smiley
