Aftermarket Gas Cap...?

Probably a silly question but:
What's the advantage/disadvantage to going with an aftermarket screw-type gas cap? Thinking of going with one from CNC Racing on a Monster 1100 (if that's even possible).

theres a good thread about it already.
Basically, someone is going to steal your gas and use your spark plugs as a crack pipe.

Pros...
They look good.
No need to remove the key to fill up.
Cons...
Some aftermarket caps don't vent properly.
Anyone can open your cap to add whatever they want.
If you don't tighten sufficiently they can loosen and fall off while riding...if you overtighten they can be difficult to remove.

Thanks guys!
So basically we're saying that it's probably a bad idea in NYC unless I want to support the crack community.... and thread locker isn't going to be the solution... damn, it would look so great on the black/gold 1100S (assuming I EVER get to bring it home)

I have this one on my 98 750
I put it on with the new black paint, I think its a really cool addition, however.............it DOES NOT vent the way the company will tell you it does. It has some sort of "vent hose" which is about as much bs as it could possibly be because it is absolutely pointless. IF LEFT IN THE CLOSED POSITION IT WILL VAPOR LOCK THE BIKE IN ABOUT 5-10 MILES. So basically I ride with it partially open to let it vent but on the flip side of that whenever you have a full tank you will get some dribble around the edges.
Ive never been really worried about anything being vandalized without the security of the locking gas cap, but I guess thats up to you whether or not you want to be worried.
I think it looks a lot better than the original gold (because it wouldn't have matched the new paint at all, and in fact would have looked stupid). But I think what I should have considered doing is anodizing the original cap black to match since its aluminum, but i already paid 100 for this one
Overall though I still say the bang is worth the buck, it just looks cooler than the stock one, enough said
and heres a pic of my dog....just becuase i love showing him off
hes a 6 month full boxer..............sometimes he eats people

I've had an aftermarket gas cap on my bike parked on NYC streets with no problem. I usually have the bike covered.
Now people backing their car into my bike, or drunk girls falling and knocking over my bike are different problems.
There have been several times that having it saved me. Several times when my (previous) immobilizer acted up I didn't have to shut the bike off to fill up. I would have been stuck very FAR from home 2x when this happened to me.

Weird. Same cap, same crappy "vent" but I've had zero issues with vapor lock. I have an FI bike but I can't see that making much of a difference...

Personal preference I guess, but I dont like the idea of a keyless screw-off petrol cap. Not that I'm worried about security really, just I dont find it at all inconvenient using the key and I like that the hinged stock cap is retained rather than having a loose screw-off cap.
I'm in the process of having my stock M1100 petrol cap powdercoated to get rid of that manky silver look.

Anyone can open your cap to add whatever they want.
Can't they just use your oil fill to do this?
I have the Oberon screw-type cap on my Monster. The red anodizing faded in about 35 minutes, and the o-ring tore in about 45 minutes (I need to order a few spares).
On my Bandit, I have the LighTech Quicklock (spring-loaded 1/4 turn). I like this one better than the Oberon. I purchased the LighTech from PJ's.

Oops, poor editing on my part. Lemme fix that...
No one uses locking oil fill hole caps. Can't someone wishing to sabotage your bike just pour shit into the oil fill hole even if you have a locking gas cap?

Probably...
but that would require that they actually open their drunken eyes to find it.
