IMO take the longest lens you have and stand as close as you can.
The action and faces are always in tight. Here is the inside of turn 4, plus a little set from the last day I was there.
Set of pics here.
Good looking bike & a nice shot Matty, may need to hire your services one day.

I'm convinced that Ducati uses old cheese to make a lot of their bolts.

Well there is more than one thread dedicated to the subject.
The incident thread:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=24996.0
The trip thread:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=33454.0
The recovery BBQ thread:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=26053.0
... and my little thank you thread:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=28906.0
Not that you really wanted to know all that ... shows that this mob aren't that bad though.
Wow! Just spent an hour or so reading through all of those posts. Quite the story. I'm glad it all worked out in the end, but wow! It would have been quite the ordeal while you two were in the middle of it all. And yes, all of the threads showed what a great bunch this lot appear to be. Nice one, guys.

Hey can't you use vice grips or a stud extractor on the exposed end of the bolt and wind it through ?
Should be easy enough.
It looks straight forward enough, but there's just
not quite enough
room there, and I didn't want to scar the bike any more than it already has been. I agree, it will be easy enough - I'll wait until I've got the right tools on Friday.

Another victim of that stupid bloody factory thread adhesive.
... If you've got a couple of nuts that will fit, you could always just use two nuts on the exposed thread to lock against each other and drive out.

Never mind handlebars - I reckon we should pass the hat around for a headlight.
And I see a good half inch of air between your knee and the ground.

Awww, thanks for that Suzie! Great to meet you today. Fantastic shot. I'll check out your Flikr site. Also met Craigo out there too, taking some snaps.
Yeah, the front of the bike looks a
little
too
naked
don't you think? (Never thought I'd be saying that anything was too naked, but there ya go.
I had a great day out there today. I might start a new thread because this one's kind of a misnomer now that the bars are sorted.

I'm really interested in that carbon fiber cover for the clutch case, etc. Any info on that'd be awesome.
Also, the bars on that pic above... They look different than the one in the prior post ABOUT the bars. Any info on that? Thanks!

Hi guys
Sorry - I've been off line for a while - too fugginbusy at the moment!
I'll post up separately on my fortunes with this bike...
In the meantime: yeah, have been getting a few bits for the bike (thanks OZ!). The QuatD system is pure evil. It's louder and meaner sounding than the system on my 848. HOWEVER - don't let that put you off getting one for the street. When you buy it, it comes with a blocking plate for the lower outlet. With that plate in, it forces the gases through a different path, and whilst it's still on the loud side, it makes it have a pleasing rumble.
The other great thing about this system is that it weighs 1kg less than the carbon-fibre Termi system that I had on before, and not only that - all of that weight is below the engine, which has got to help with handling.
Re the carbon-fibre cover for the clutch side - again, see OZ. This cover is interchangeable for the 848, so if you see a cover that fits the clutch-side of the 848, it'll also fit the 696. In fact, the entire alloy clutch-side crankcase cover is interchangeable (I know because I pilfered the immaculate one that was on the 696, packed it away in storage, and put on a spare that I'd bought a while back for the 848).
Re the handlebars - I'm still not totally happy with this setup. I'd originally bought the ultra-low Renthals as substitutes for the OEM ones that were bent. My assessment is that these "lowest of the low" Renthals must still be slightly higher than the OEMs. So, what I've done to compensate is to flip them upside down and back to front. They're now like a poor-man's clip-on.
If you're going to go this route - a couple of things you need to be aware of:
You will lose some of your already marginal turning circle (the steering stops need to be adjusted slightly as the bars will hit your tank on full lock)
You will need to smooth down the knurling that has been pressed into the alloy on the Renthals - this knurling is normally on the left hand grip, but when you flip it, it's on the throttle side. You don't want any roughness in the throttle action, so spend some time and get it right. Some coarse wet & dry did the trick for me. (You don't need to fully remove the knurling - just get it smooth.)
As I said, I'll start a new thread and post up some more info on this bike.
Cheers
Chris
