No such thing as zero anything.  What did it take to make the batteries?  Did they use coal to provide electricity for that plant or nuclear energy?  The joke is on us who have believed there is such thing as clean energy source.  You get dirty to get clean

What about hydroelectric?

What about hydroelectric?

still have to manufacture the batteries.

to my knowledge, there is no such thing as green battery manufacturing now.   you're going to have to deal with the waste of spent batteries plus the waste of procuring the substances needed for them (lead?  sulfuric acid?  lithium?  nickel and cadmium?)

+1

-1. It's not rubbish at all.

Zero emissions is possible from the vehicle. It can be run without using any power (assuming you have a set of solar panels on your roof, drive very little and don't use those solar panels to power anything else).
..are you suggesting that electric race bikes have all that???

oh, wait...

So, is it zero emissions in practice? Nope. But it's possible, and that's something you can't say for an internal combustion engine in anything.

what is possible is irrelevant.  it's possible for me to fly and fart dixie if only i could defy gravity and control my bowels to that extent.

and that is the religion of the "zero emissions" crowd -- Ifonlyism

It's also much easier for the EPA to monitor a few powerstations per state to ensure they meet emissions than it is to monitor the three hundred million plus vehicles the US has on its streets.
and those power stations emit waste

The tailpipe emissions are zero, in fact it doesn't have one.  We don't count the power plant to charge it or any of the other valid points that were mentioned Tongue

What about hydroelectric?

More accurate to say there is no zero environmental impact source of power generation; yet anyway.  Hydroelectric won't produce carbon emmisions, but it damn sure make the beast with two backss up the ecology of the rivers they're plopped on.

Dams can only be placed in so many places.
Wind farms take up large areas of land or water, can only be placed in so many places, have environmental impacts on avian species as well as other displaced ground species.
Solar arrays take up large areas of land (again displacing ground species) and can only be placed in so many places (flat enough ground with enough sun exposure).

All of this "green" movement is moot anyway and is missing a more immediate threat that is fresh water consumption versus the world population growth.  Very soon we're going to see the cry shift from omg there is carbons to omg there's no water.
