you didn't use a Killz Primer 1st did you?

when all else fails...whatever you do...don't succumb to huffing aerosol fumes...it really isn't the answer!

Oh I did. I used High Hiding Primer. It hid the green no sweat. But it's gray. And sucks up paint like you wouldn't believe. So then I had to cover gray. In hindsight I should have hit a coat of white primer between the gray and the red, but then I'd be in two primer coats and two color coats so far and probably still need a third color coat. Instead it looks like one primer coat and four color coats is going to do the trick. Six of one half dozen of the other for the most part.

Bright red is a pregnant dog to paint, period. Will never do it again unless the wall is white to begin with.

The secret to painting a room bright red is to prime it with Gray not white primer.  I learned this after painting a client's living room with literally 8 COATS of Benjamin Moore, Red Alert.  

Red alert is the color of the Debil!

Yeah, the gray worked well, red is just... red.

Valspar Signature Scarlet Sun is also the debbil. Luckily it's also thicker than whale snot so it covers better than most. Five coats is my guess.

Had another good ride today.  Well, until someone decided to see how their brakes matched up to a Honda Accord that is...

Finished putting on the new fuel lines and cleaned up the carbs on the 750.

Then in a moment of sheer awesomeness I also managed to get my wife to almost ride the bike by herself!

I had a good crash today. make the beast with two backsing totaled the bike, though. Here's what happened...

Riding along a nice country'ish road, 2-3 clicks back from the rider in front of me. A driver, coasting through a stop sign at an intersecting road, watches the 2 bikes in front of me pass by, and proceeds... Not only did this driver not stop at his stop sign, he failed to look to his left (oncoming traffic). If he had looked to his left as he was not stopping at his stop sign, he would have seen me endo'ing as I try to stop/avoid colliding with his vehicle.

Well, my arms got tired. I don't practice my endos as much as I should. So I decided to let go of my bike and fly away from the carnage unfolding. That worked pretty well but the landing was rough. While I was in the air I had time to reflect on some advanced MSF training, and I remembered to tuck my sh!t in. Once I stopped skipping across the asphalt I calmly stood up, picked up my bike, and walked it to the shoulder of the road. Nothing to it.

Blue lights. Jibber-jabber. Call the best guy around with a m/c trailer...

What could have I done to avoid this? Well, not much. But I did grab too much front brake while maneuvering. What was I wearing? A pair of Levis 527s and a Tourmaster Coaster II leather jacket took most of the beating. I somehow managed to not hit my head, so not a scratch on the helmet. Sidi boots are pristine except for a little rash on the left toe guard. Sidi gloves held up fine but will need to be replaced. I walked away without a scratch.

I'd like to thank Lars, Ben, Jim, and Brian for keeping my spirits up during the paperwork ceremony and the long wait for a tow. Brian gets extra credit for having boobs plastered all over his bike, and for having peculiar graham cracker treats. And Tom did his part on the trip back to Arlington.

The bike is, like I said, totaled. The swingarm and/or subframe is/are bent, the foot controls disintegrated, and just about everything visible is rashed.

I will miss that 696, but the thought of my next bike is keeping me awake tonight.

Glad to hear you're ok.  How did the Levi's hold up??
