Heard back from Mike Collins today. Says he's too busy to wrench at the moment...
Glad he's got steady work, but was hoping I'd be able to hire him for the 12k service on the SC.
Dang IT!

Gotta love the Aussies 'This tubey, pipey thing... ouch'
Seriously - I've got all the tools you'd need to do a valve check on a 2v. Gauges, a purpose made rocker depressor, crank tuner (insert joke here), cotter pin puller, micrometer etc etc.
It's not hard - you saw that my bike runs and I did mine.... Can't be *that* hard.

I've never done it, but what I've heard is just what Sad Panda is saying. The biggest issue is having all the shims on hand. The whole set is expensive, but if a bunch of people chip in for a community set it's OK. Plus the ones that are removed get to be used in a different bike, not like you throw them away.

Having watched Mike do mine, I feel confident that with the right tools I could easily do it again.
Just ordered a Speedymoto farkly top triple for an SBK conversion so I guess it's safe to say I'm for a penny in for a pound on this one. I figured if I'm going to drop money and time modding a stock triple, might as well spend a few extra bucks and end up with something far prettier that comes ready to bolt on.
So anyone here that did an SBK conversion? I know the forks are supposed to end up sticking out of the triple a bit further, I assume I'll go with zero rise clips above the triple.

It's pretty much measure, measure again and adjust if needed. Not hard, just a bit fiddly.
Yeah - the PITA is if you do need new shims and they are not on hand. Ones that are a tad to big can just be sanded, but in the instance where you need a bigger one, then it can be a hassle. If you've got the space and time, you can just order them as singletons. But that means leaving the bike non-running for a week or so.
Oh and I've got 7 and 8 mm closer measuring do-hickys too

If you guys want to do the work in my garage the bike can sit in there for a while if needed. I won't put it back together and ride it.
Honest.

I had put some research into it for the 750, bought the forks (that now I'm using for Bianca), but then just ended up busy with other stuff.
The hardest part really is finding a (reliable) place to bore out the top triple. If you already have 25mm hollow axle and 65mm caliper mounts, then the rest is plug-and-play: re-spring the forks, change the oil, slide them back in (mark the height first), bolt the stuff back on and you're good.

Yea but by the time you bore the triples, you are half way into a shiny new set of Cycle Cat blems.......if they are still available.

Cycle Cat are pretty much unobtanium at this point since they're out of business. You can find the oddball set running around and the Holy Grail of new-old-stock is out there but best of luck finding it.
I bought the Speedymotos to avoid the machine shop/angle grinder to remove the stock riser route. Now to find some good shim material for the lower clamp and I should be set. I'm just curious if no-rise clips on the top are a better or worse option than risers under the triple.

That's kind of exactly what I was thinking. The SBK forks are supposed to be 25mm longer than my stockers, should be perfect for no-rise clips with a little finagling.
