I copied this off another forum so I don't know how accurate it is. Apologies if it turns out to be a lot of ar$e blowing.
Not much change for you S*R riders, but a huge one for some of us with the "small block".

Your CTP is going up.
NSW CTP Greenslips change from 1 July and no one bothered to tell us because they thought we wouldn’t notice.
The Motorcycle Council of NSW and Bikers Australia are unaware of the extent of the changes based on my calls to them today.
The new categories are as follows;
100 to 226
226 to 726
726 to 1125
1125 to 1325
1325 and over

Bike Old New
250   $252   $465   84%
600   $663   $465   -30%
750   $663   $682   3%
1000   $663   $682   3%
1150   $663   $880   32%
1350   $663   $780   18%

Prices are an average of the top 3 prices gleaned from the MAA Greenslip calculator.
Information based on;
2004 model bike
Metro area rego.
Driver 48 Y/O
No Demerit points
No other insurance
No roadside assist.
No at fault

Basically email/write/drop into your local member and the transport minister and advise the following;
You vote and will vote for the person that supports you.
Ask why is this happening
Ask what are they doing about it.
Ask why the split of capacities is so obviously designed to gouge the maximum amount out of Motorcyclists.

But Rob, is that because you have full comprehensive insurance on your bike 'cos I know that will make a huge difference as those prices are without insurance

Uh-oh ... what's going on here?

I, incidentally, got my renewal notice on Thursday ... I was intrigued to see the change in capacity splitting. Anyway the renewal is cheaper than last year's premium.

I am usually one for a bit of anarchy but complaining about this would be like not accepting a generous offer for free Rizoma Radial Naked mirrors.

I found the report that details the reasons.

https://www.maa.nsw.gov.au/getfile.aspx?Type=document&ID=44381&ObjectType=3&ObjectID=3912

It's detailed in appendix D, right at the end (page 245).

Basically legislation went through in April meaning drivers (and riders) who are at-fault are covered by ctp (making it cfp, I guess).  So squids on 250s who throw their bikes to the ground and end up badly injured are able to claim for their injuries.

Previously the main people claiming against CTP for bikes was pillions, hence bigger bikes (that have more pillions) copping big premiums, and 250s being really cheap to insure.  Now that the riders are covered, the tables are turned (a bit).

Of course the insurers use any excuse to jack up prices as much as possible.

I haven't gone and read it - don't live in NSW so it doesn't affect me - yet.

So does this mean that you don't have to purchase full comprehensive insurance now because you have CTP (which is now CFP)?

I suppose the argument could be made that young persons on 250's are less likely to pay for comp. insurance in the first place and this is a way of making them pay their share.  But the cynic in me sees this as a double dipping rip off exercise of the people who do have comp. insurance.

Heather it is still different to comprehensive ... it is all about personal injury. That is, no coverage for damage to property under the CTP/CFP ... you still need comp or TPPD for that.
