The highlight though was definitely seeing a crab trap float bobbing along the side of 95. Should have brought some chicken necks, could have had breakfast.

So I scored a goldline 320mm 2-pad setup in exchange for services (let your imagination do the walking). I was planning on just sticking with the coffins because I really dig the simplicity of the look and reports that the performance difference is minor. Ben however has thrown a wrench in the gear by claiming that the radial masters will perform much better. Yet I read another post where the Saddest of Pandas claims he used the coffins and they were just dandy.

I know the radials flex less, but for street use (and the extremely rare track day) does having more immediate braking outweigh a softer pull? I would think the coffins would offer a bit more modulation because of their flex.

It's not really about the immediate "OH SHIT" that you can get with radials that I was referring to.  You get both better modulation and/or more power with the radials.  It all depends on which piston size you go with, and how those pistons relate to the ones in the calipers.

My opinion is that for our level of riding, anything above drum brakes is good enough (insert here obvious caveats). Everything else is just different degrees of icing on the cake.

Would I go with radial masters and calipers? Hell yea! Would I spend in excess of $1k for the parts? F**K no! For my level of riding it's just not worth it. I'm not saying that the radials are not worth the money, I'm sure I would notice the difference and I would love it. But conventional are just fine, after all that's what Ducati had on their SuperBikes in the 90s and it didn't keep them from winning. Before I get radials, I need to loose 20 pounds and invest in riding school, then I can think about taking seconds off my lap times.


Caveat: of course if I find some nice stuff for the cheap on eBay, well....  Wink cheeky laughingdp

Agreed on all points for the most part, though I feel like there are definitely times where I could use a little more binder entering a turn. For street riding not a really big deal because I leave plenty on the table for unforeseen circumstances, but I swear I'm going to do a friggin trackday next season. The brakes on the 695 are seriously laughable. This year on the Tail it was blatantly obvious that they just don't have the guts needed to really go for it on the track.

I definitely wouldn't invest in a set of radial calipers for the bike, especially since I have a shiny new (to me) set of 2-pad 4-pots and rotors. I was considering going with a radial master cylinder though. The current plan is to stick with my current setup initially and if it feels 'off' to try the radial master.
