Hello everyone,

im somewhat new here and the proud owner of an 09 monster 696. its time for my first scheduled maintenance and im wondering; can i take my bike to the local shop for the oil change or is there a benefit to taking it to my ducati dealer? the reason i ask, is there is a bike shop 1 mile from my house, and the ducati dealer is about 70 miles. the manual says they are just changing oil and checking tire pressure etc for the 600 mile maintenance. any thoughts?

the dealer will be able to turn off the wrench light that comes on at service time. but there's no harm leaving it on til you make it to the dealer next time.

also, supposedly there is more to the first service than an oil change, but it's all in your manual. i'm sure the local shop could do most of them.

They should also be checking torque on bolts.

I would also add that in my experience, should you ever need warranty work done, the dealers are much more helpful if you have records of service done through them.

Once my bike was out of warranty though, I have not let anyone but myself touch it for service work.

I will add that they CANNOT deny you warranty work, even if u do the service urself, unless they found that u did it completely wrong. this is a Federal law so it doenst matter what state you are in.
