We used to have some at the Base in New orleans. I think it was the ANG that had those. Then they traded them in for some F16's to do the same mission.
I didn't think an F-16 could do the job the Warthog does.

They sound terrifying...but I'm always afraid they'll fall from the sky from going so slow. Tongue

I dont think they do, at least not exactly. I think it was a plan that went south.

Back when Plattsburgh AFB was open for business, it was not an unusual occurrence to be treated to a low level A10 flyover anywhere in the Adirondack High Peaks.  They especially loved to scare the shit out of the skiers on Gore and Whiteface  laughingdp

Back in the early & mid 80s, they did the same thing in the Myrtle Beach area.  It was awesome to see them come in low over the ocean.

Man-o-man do they wail like a Banshee!   My first unexpected flyover I almost pooped my pants from the shrieking.

If I were on the ground, on foot, in a HUMVEE, in a truck or in a tank, I'd be way more scared of an A-10 than an F-16.

I used to work under the approach for the local reserve base, the C-17's would come in shrieking and going so slow it was ridonkulous.

Yea, it's amazing what a slow flying C-17 or C-130 can do...  They're slow but rather fierce.

Even better... there was someone anal-retentive enough to scrutinize this for missing parts:
