It's like when your oh-so-hot prom date shows up at the 10 year reunion and she's a bunch thicker but with the same basic shape.  Not blubbery, just much thicker.  You can still tell that she was hot, but notw it's underneath a layer of fat and over-stretched skin.

Although some (most?) Ducatista will probably hate this type of bike -- it is a very viable platform for Ducati to expand the marketplace and showroom traffic.  Essentially a large horsepower / street power cruiser with very comfortable ergonomics.  I know a LOT of Ducatista over the years who migrated to a bigger/larger (different manufacturer) bike due to the ergonomic factor alone.  Not all of us are small/slender stature Europeans who find the new Monster ergonomics (or even StreetFighter) comfortable to ride.

I think the Hypermotard was a great idea (and comfortable to ride for many) -- and sales have been fairly good.  The SportClassic had initial sales but didn't fill the niche market as well as hoped long-term.  I'm sure a LOT of us would love to see a new SuperSport rendition -- but it isn't a big seller for Ducati given Monster and baby Superbike sales competing for the same dollars.

Remember Porsche did this a few years ago with the 4x4 SUV's and even the 4-door things now. They sold a lot of SUV's that make a lot of money which got helped pay for racing and other more niche specific developments. 

I'd love to see Ducati build a new platform like this that doesn't affect existing model sales.  It essentially brings new clientele who traditionally might not have bought a Ducati.  And it will bring back some folks who left Ducati's due to comfort factors.  And it will provide funds to build better manufactured platforms later.

I think this would be just the ticket for what I've been looking for. I recently added 800+ miles on the odom. in 2 days after joining a group of buddies. They were on Harleys and I was on my S4RS. Well, I was convinced it was time to add a cruiser of sorts to the stable but I'm just not cool enough to ride a Harley 
:P so after seeing this new Ducati creation I am very intrigued.

I don't see this thing lasting long. Why do the baby boomers encourage this kind of crap. It's always something bigger and more powerful, what would be awesome....a small lightweight relatively cheap 250 or 500. we dont get the truly awesome stuff in the us because bigger is better.

This feels like a huge breach of brand loyalty and trust
