I see nothing wrong with staying with plastic.  The part is under compression, it isnt going anywhere clamped up the way it is.  Why not just use black delrin?

...These are mockups, out of low density polyethylene plastic. They fit perfectly, and are a perfect 10mm offset. All I need to do now is find some 3/4" aluminum sheet to machine real ones...

Edit:   Shocked Never Mind!  Just checked McMaster Carr, 3/4 delrin sheet 6x6 is $88 !  However, there are lot's of delrin cutoffs on eBay for way less.

huh 999 radials require spacers?

yup if you're not using them on a 999, they use coffin reservoirs you see. Those coffin reservoirs interfere with stuff.

Hey bergdoerfer, where abouts are you?  If your in the States, check and see if you have a Metal Supermarket near you.  They aren't the cheapest, but, you can get as little or as much as you want.

As an alternate, I use a lot of 80/20 Aluminum Extrusion - I buy it all from their eBay store and they happen to have a TON of Al flat stock on their for pretty darn good prices (it's all off cuts for them).  Feel like I'm giving away a resource there...but, you should be able to find a big hunk to make your parts for less than $20. Like this piece of .75" thick x 12" L x 4" W for $10...

Now that's what I'm talking about. Thanks. I may use MR10 polycarbonate which is the stuff F16 cockpit covers are made from. It's hard yet not brittle and non-compressible. Whatever I use it has to be something that doesn't compress. I need a solid clampdown. So its looking like either the polycarbonate or some aluminum. Trouble is I only have 1/2" MR10 and very little of it. It's extremely expensive. I'll see if my supplier has any cutoffs of 3/4".

they're not coffins. they are pee cups mounted directly on the master cylinders.

Huh? whatever you say  Cool

I'll call 'em coffins, you can call them whatever. They are not considered remote reservoirs, and it doesn't change the fact that they need spacers.  Grin

LOL you've lost me. I don't think I ever said or implied that the 999 superbikes had handlebars. In case you need to update your data read this thread http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=39952.0, incidentally a thread you posted in. One needs spacers if one wants 999 masters, whether one wants to install them on clipons or handlebars(in my case SM handlebars - the manufacturer states you need clipon spacers). In what way are your posts contributing to my thread? Remind me. Your dazzling Ducati knowledge is truly awe inspiring - now STFU. Grin Evil Roll Eyes

Ouch man. I'll contribute to your thread, and by contribute I mean hijack. You have an s2r right? I am picking up a pair of SM bars too. From what I understand you will not need spacers. Is yours a dark? Is that why you need them? Due the bar diameter change? Thanks.

Yes, they require spacers to fit with "some clip-ons" commonly used on monsters. (e.g. CC, SM, Swatt, tomaselli, ect.)

If you look closely, you can see them on my Brake & Clutch Masters.

I'm using an SM M4 handlebar meant for the M1100, with a stock S2R800 triple bored out to 53mm. This triple uses the tapered Magura bar diameter. I'm using this bar in the hopes it will clear the adjusters on the 998 forks I'm using. SM states that this bar is not compatible with coffin masters. From the photos I can't understand why, but I'm assuming it's the same reason coffins won't mount up to clipons.

Hmm... isn't coffins/"coffins" hitting the riser part of clip ons the issue? If so, SM bars shouldn't require spacers?

SM's statement connected to fairing clearance issues?

hmmm well I thought about letting it go, but make the beast with two backs that.

here is the photo of the SM M4 bar you quote you are using.

now, i've held the 999 masters in my hands, even tried them on my Woodcraft clipons WHICH by the way didn't need make the beast with two backsin spacers to use them.

can't see a reason to need the spacers on the M4 bars either. maybe along with your infinite make the beast with two backsing knowledge you could post a picture of the problem and we (the people who SHOULD STFU) could help you.

OK I owe Raux a sincere apology, my inner asshole came out. Knee jerk reaction. Too much coffee. I apologize for being a douchebag, I usually have more class than that.   Embarrassed

With that said, I'm having to sort through a complicated situation. I'm doing an SBK front fork swap on my S2R800 which was a Dark, but is now a black-with-white-stripe. I got my hands on an S2R top triple from a 1k. So 998 forks w/ adjusters poking up an extra 23mm and SM bars - I'm hoping the two aren't mutually exclusive. To complicate things more, I'm ruminating on 999 masters. To avoid having to burn more cash I'm rocking the stock coffin masters & 2 pot brake calipers for the time being. So the spacers I will need whether I do the 999s or not. I just don't really like the look of remote reservoirs, even though they would make my life much easier. There will be some trial and error here, shipping charges eaten, etc.

just trying to help, honest.

but looking at that photo. it's your riser that going to be the issue. if it doesnt bring the bar high enough you'll get the bar hitting the top  of the forks. and also, i really don't think there's a problem with the stock masters you have. the bar is 7/8" at the controls and is flat on the outside where the coffins reside.

obviously, once you get all the parts you might experience different, as I have learned, not everything works the way it's planned.
