Reading the VicRoads site about demerits says that you never get back to zero.  With each subsequent misdemeanour they look at it to see if you have amassed 12 demerits in a 3 year period.  So technically you just keep clocking up points indefinitely.  It's just the time period that you do it in that matters. 

eg I lost 3 points in 2006, 3 in 2007 and 6 in 2008 so I'm figuring that the ones in 2006 and 2007 don't count against me anymore. So by my reckoning, next year I can let my hair down - yee haa.    [moto]

You would have had your licence suspended for 3 months H!!

Whether you get the paperwork or not it just goes through regardless!!  Lucky , lucky, lucky.

IF the suspension was enforced for the amassing of the 12 points you should have had a clean record reinstated at the end of suspension!

The only hassle could be a declaration to your Insurance company regarding the suspension! You know how those pricks will use stuff like that to get out of a claim. (Read the small print  )

Might be worth contacting Vic Roads and getting a licence history!?

I'm too scared to ask them in case they decide to impose a retrospective suspension!! 
I read the VicRoads website about amassing 12 demerits and it did say back then "may suspend the licence for 3 months"  but the website has changed now with new laws coming in.

I understand H, but I dont think there would be a drama anymore as the procedure was to issue an "Option" letter to the miscreant (You   ) to choose whether you wanted the 3 month suspension, or optionally, to enter into a 12 month good behavior bond to be infringement free for 1 year. And, if caught in that period you would be suspended for 6 months.

Amongst other things the letter would state that if the 3 month option was chosen you need not reply and the suspension would start 28 days from the reply date of the Option letter! So if they didnt get a reply from you the suspension would have gone ahead anyway!

Just give 'em a call and ask for an infringement record for insurance purposes and it would be organised by a phone operator and wouldnt go to Enforcement section.

Sorry for Threadjacking Gino  - happens all the time around here. 

Dragon - I've sussed it out - for free.  You can call an automated number to find out how many points you have and last infringement date.
They reckon I only have 3 demerits not the 6 I reckon I have - I'm not going to argue. And my last ticket was 2008 so it's not like it's still getting there (AustPost getting a bit slow?) So I'm guessing that's why I never received a letter.  And to think I've been behaving myself for ages thinking I had no points left    [moto]

Also that recording still says "if you accrue 12 or more demerits in a 3 year period your licence MAY be suspended".

Yep Love them.  Also put a 170 on the rear instead of 180.  I'm pretty sure it made a difference but I changed so much about the bike at the same time it's hard to know what to attribute to the tyres. Monsterdorf put one on at the same time too and rode from near Brisbane to Darwin and back.  I'm pretty sure he liked it too.

Heh, yep I have seen the 2 or 3 editions of this story do the rounds on the Email circuit, but its fun to do the "what if" thing. Isnt that what  and perhaps other substances are used for??

I am running Angels on my Multi, best touring tyre i've ever used... did 4 days away last weekend in the wet and cold and these tyres are truly amazing...
