What about the Pingel switches?  Spidey has five buttons on his left: horn, hi beam, left turn, right turn, and motogadget toggle.  I take it the first four (and start + run on the right housing) can't just be wired up to the existing harness?

On Spidey's bike:

Start button works as it's wired through a conventional relay.

Kill switch had to be wired through a latch relay (basically a relay that changes state in response to a momentary push button)

Turn signals were also wired through a latch relay (but aren't quite working right)

Horn was wired through a regular relay.

But latch relays are pretty finicky and I think Spidey's turn signals don't exactly work right. It's harder on his bike since I think the ECU controls the turn signals.

I was able to get my set-up working initially by using a self-canceling turn signal kit, and then wiring the push buttons normally.
Start button and horn went through a relay.
And no kill switch(!) or high-low beam control.

As for "ready to go" kits that plug directly into an existing harness... Someone is surely working on something like that (coughsworntosecrecycough)

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Thanks for the info DM.

I really wish that I would have chosen a more (personally) useful vocation.   :P

It's not like I'm an electrician, or an EE man. Junior High electronics class (circa 1982) FTW!

Interesting, I'm on it!

It's done! My saint of a wife gave me* enough time off this weekend to finish up the wiring (and in some cases re-wiring) as well as all the wrapping (and in some case, re-wrapping) and securing of the new harness.

(*okay, I took the kids to the zoo while she went off to watch the World Cup in exchange)

The low point was when all the wires decided to pop out of one of the connectors I was using so I had to re-figure out what went where and secure the whole mess again with hot glue (memo to self: don't re-use ancient connectors)

The high point was figuring out how to wire up two diodes to one of the push buttons so I could have flashing hazard lights.

I still need to find the old motogadget manual, as the newer ones have different colored wires for the speedo sensor (no speedo at the moment) and in general I need to spend some time shuffling around the components a bit for a cleaner installation.

Still, I rode the bike into work this morning and everything worked great  [thumbsup]

Thanks  ;D

Now I just need to spend some time actually riding my bike, rather than tearing it apart  [roll]

Also a bath. It needs one.
