pricing is hard on those bikes.  i bought my FE for $3500.

Good price! - mine was 2700 but it was bone stock, so I added the flat-slides, etc. But as we all know add-ons don't greatly increase the value. A look at eBay completed auctions shows the 3K - 3500 range to be the going rate.

I'm sure most of us have read many stories on this bike:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ducati-Supersport-Ducati-bevel-750-SS-1974-California-Hot-Rod-Daytona-Superbike-winner-1977-/181651205546?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2a4b416daa&item=181651205546&pt=US_motorcycles

It is interesting to see it being sold on ebay and being sold by none other than Ian Falloon. The $1M buy-it-now is also an attention getter. According to this: http://www.gizmag.com/top100-worlds-most-expensive-motorcycles/31958/ it would join a VERY short list of motorcycles sold for $1M+ at auction. I wonder how close the reserve is to the buy-it-now price?

Remember it well back in the day. $1M is pretty funny. Doubt this will hit reserve. BMW paid a small fraction of that for Reg's #183 which now lives on display in Munich.  Cool

I just wonder wht it's for sale? Seems like a deal could ahve been strcuk with the factory, which is where it belongs IMHO, if not in the Barber museum, which would be my preference. - Gene

Not that it means much with 8 days remaining on the auction, but the price is up over $125k with the reserve not being met. I'm sure most of those are people having fun hoping they don't actually hit the reserve. There are 131 people viewing the auction per hour and 484 people watching the auction, so it is getting the amount of attention one would expect. My guess is there will be a major flurry of activity close to the auction end. Maybe the intent here is to take a moon shot at getting a crazy price.  If/when that fails, take the highest bid, tack on a bit and see if Barber or the Ducati museum in Bologna will bite.

I don't know and for some reason they are staying in the shadows. Vicki had some thoughts on it on the Ducati.net email list and then Cook himself had some thoughts yesterday on the sale, they both know who the owner is but refer to them as "Owner" no name One of the issues they brought up is what's inside the motor since the owner never runs the bike, so there is some concern about what parts are in that motor and what parts may have been replaced from the winning assembly. - Gene

I know half a dozen bonafide collectors in New York and New Jersey. I don't think any of them had a bike like this. I bet greg rathe knows

Some of you probably already know this, but a bit of poking around the internet reveals that Fred Fitzgerald owned Old Blue at least recently as 2008. According to a 2007 article in US Desmo, Fiztgerald turned down an offer of $600k for the bike.

In the acknowledgments section of one of Falloon's books, the name Fred Fitzgerald appears, so there is some small connection between the two.

21 hours left, 2+ people viewing per second, bidding stalled at $250,000. Let's see what happens at 12:59 PM tomorrow.  popcorn

Not with a bang, but a whimper...auction ends with a high bid of $250k.

I didn't expect $1M, but I did expect a few last minutes bids and maybe something north of $300k. If an offer of $600k was ever given, it looks like the seller was foolish to turn it down.

As others have mentioned, it would be nice for this bike to end up in a museum. Hopefully this episode precipitates that result.

Yeah I've been watching it for last 2 hours, I have a suspicion on the $250K, sure hope it ends up in Barber assume new blue would be kept. - Gene
