Ahh.  Pouring acid in my eyes right now.  Putting flames on a Ducati is sacrilegious.  Flames belong on a Buell.

If anyone's still searching for a great street-legal dirtbike, this looks like an excellent option. Already titled and tagged, and all the right mods/upgrades:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/2925798156.html

I'd be all over this if I hadn't bought another 250X a few months ago (unfortunately not street-legal).

A friend is selling some Branch heads + carbs for a bevel Ducati, so if you know anyone who's got a 70's 750 and wants some special bits:

with the work done, they're worth about half what he's asking.  pitted cams? pretty much useless without a lot of work.

The value is in the heads / carb, he just threw in the rest. Megacycle can resurface the cam. Sadly the used race parts market aint so great. Like they say - the way to make a small fortune in racing is to start with a large one!

You are paraphrasing Briggs Cunningham! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cunningham_C7

"Cunningham's efforts were big news in America. At one point Briggs and his cars appeared on the front cover of Time Magazine (April 26, 1954). The Time Magazine writer, thinking that the operation was financially successful, remarked to Briggs that he seemed to have made a small fortune from his motorsports efforts and asked him how he had done this. Briggs answered by saying "start with a large fortune".

Yeah - it's always funny to see their confusion when you explain to someone that there's either 0$ or token winnings in amatuer racing, just little plastic made-in-China trophys. Even at the professional level there's almost no money. I mean "1000$ dash for cash"? You're lucky if that covers the weekend tire bill.
From what I've seen, most people road-race up until they're good enough to require new tires every weekend and then bow out, unless they're talented enough to have a local shop sponsor them (i.e. sell them parts at cost and maybe give them a set of tires every weekend).

I think though, it isn't a bad price....definitely on the higher retail side of pricing...but put a set of TKC 80's on it, and I bet you could use this to hit all of the roads Pepe hits without issue....

Not many DS tires come in 17" size front.... Not that it's kept people from mounting the rear (backwards) on the front...  laughingdp
