I really am leery of it... I don't trust the bottom end, and it's a '92 ... he's used the same photo for the last 2 years

That lump is good for holding a floor down. Not worth anything at this point.

i want the heads -- i offered him what the heads were worth, and that is taking a chance given i can't see in the engine.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

It will, but first weekend in June I'm off to Aussie-land so that's out.
I did order a Brembo radial master cyl for it and new tires for the Summit Pt track day on the 13th but now it looks like rain, so it'll have to wait. I should paint the new bodywork first anyways.
Oh and I got a new spring from Ohlins. Turns out when I was told "you've got the lightest spring they make" that really meant "I didn't check the spring at all and what's on there is a stock spring for a 1000SS. </grumpy>

Funny, it seems Ohlins USA in NC screwed up the initial preload setting on my spring really bad...about an extra 8mm or so. It was like a riding a brick. Mark at Markbilt got the rear all sorted at SP with NESBA before the races. It was so bad I had to drop the front end 5mm to get it to turn again.
I will be at SP with NESBA on the 24th....they have some good pricing this yr. Come on out and run I class with me .

If IKEA sold a Guzzi, it would look like this:

Some assembly required..

Interesting. If I'd landed that job in DC, that would have filled the role of commuter scooter quite well.

"It has duel front disc breaks" -- this means when you squeeze the lever they challenge you to a fight, and then shatter.
$2400 for a rusty basket. I think someone may have to accept a lot less if he wants it out of his driveway. Or he could part it out I suppose.

That is a sweet bike! Pretty much the same Rotax engine as the BMW F650 but with a Yamaha derived 5 valve head, and most importantly DECENT FORKS!

A reminder that Ducati wasn't the only Italian factory making bad decisions and awkward cruisers in the 80s:

It looks like a lot of the Japanese cruisers of the same era...with a little 72 degree air-cooled v-twin.

So I spent a few minutes checking to see if anyone had tried to "redeem" an Excalibur or Indiana. These are the best I could find:
http://www.motorkari.cz/motorka/?mid=74950
http://www.coroflot.com/DimonDesign/Ducati-Indiana-800-RR
The Excalibur is certainly nothing to get excited about, but at least is an improvement over the original. The Indiana 800RR actually looks ok and is a respectable effort.
I hereby challenge someone on this board to rescue that poor Excalibur from itself....
