This is actually something that i've been looking for to go on some tours with my dad. Has anyone here owned an ST before?

Even though it seems like a pretty good deal, the Bike looks like it's been down though which makes me a little leery.

Besides the repaint - what make you say that?

The never ending sale on the '92 900ss engine is back.

Going on 3 years.  At this rate he'll take my offer in only 2 more years.

I own an ST3, which in my opinion is a more useful motor for the type of riding most do, but the ST4 is a very good bike. This bike looks like a fair deal, since it is an 02' model it has the more rounded style fairing that many prefer over the restyled more angular bodywork starting in 04'. Not a lot of miles on this bike, I'd want to see the service records. The Blue Color was a standard color for that year. The ST series are great bikes and speaking from my own expereince you will find them almost as good as a Monster on a back twisty road. A perfect trip for my ST3 is to Indy GP, 1st day twisty roads through VA/WV/OH, then last ~250 miles on super slab on the 2nd day. But the last couple of years I've also taken it to Barber twice each year on the back twisty roads of VA/NC/TN/GA/AL including diamondback, dragon, cherola skyway. It's also a great 2up bike. I've ridden the bike to the races at Road America and Road Atlanta and Springfield Mile over a long weekend, had fun and was comforatble. I have much more nice things to say about the ST series but since this is the DMF, I'll stop there. - Gene

At sustained high speeds I have gotten that on my ST3 on more than one occasion the fairing works at speeds above 75MPH. There are stretches of interstate going out to Road America, Springfield Mile, and I-81 in TN that running at those speeds is possible. - Gene

True but I cannot tell the difference in the picture from the Blue color Ducati used, still a fair question to ask why it was repainted. - Gene

I still can't figure out why the ST3 was a market failure.  The first wave of reviews seemed to suggest that it was the best of both worlds; most of the grunt of the ST2 with most of the top end of the ST4. That seems like a recipe for a success, but the ST3 disappeared very quickly and the desmotre was never to be seen again in any model.

The ST3 lasted longer than the other versions, finally disappearing in 2008, so 4 years.  I think one of the reasons is the Sport Touring market in not really what the name implies, in this country at least. Americans seem to want sexy Superslab bikes, with luggage, and capable of an occasional back twisty road. All the current offerings in this category need to go on a major diet IMHO. I think the same is true of this fascination with Adventure Tourers, most may be capable of some off road stuff but very few ever see a dirt road let alone some single track. Now explain the sale success of the MTS1200? To be honest if it was not so damn tall I might consider selling my ST3 to get one. - Gene
