Wow $1300? Worth more if it were parted out (of course the problems may be simple, or may be bad, 30000 miles and leaking oil, hmmm)

Huh?
Quote
the bad...
the clutch needs to be replaced it wont engage
needs new front and rear brake pads
needs new sliders
and a front fender
will need a new front tire soon
and has a small oil leak (probably from the age of the tubing)

either springs or bleed the clutch, I bet.
brake pads.. omg.. horrors.
sliders?
90% of oil leaks on this model come from the covers or the case split.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Sliders I assumed meant fork sliders

I read "won't engage" - meaning it won't stay in gear. I'd guess a smoked clutch or worse. If the master cyl is bad (or all the fluid leaked out) it'd engage but not disengage (so I'd guess it'd stall immediately after the chunk/lurch!)

There's a couple of things labeled Sept. 10th so either he did a batch of maint or a shop did. Either way a simple clutch prob would have been fixed. Probably they said "You need lots for a new clutch, basket, bearing and maybe even gearbox parts" and he/she said - off to CL

My guess is it's a beater that's been down the road a few times, but 1300$...

Here's another good deal: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/1980206983.html
